BaftaBabe didn't "take over the fourum". If anything she has done more than anyone to keep it alive by regularly contributing. If you see the majority of posts coming from her that is because very few others care to contribute any more, including me and including you. The FYC would have stopped completely at least a year ago if she hadn't maintained it, and that's a fact. You, and others, may not particularly care for her resulting dominance or her manner of writing, but I'm not seeing you chiming in with anything other than complaints and annoyances.

Humility and respect are the traits most sorely missing from this community, and that makes it a toxic place to inhabit.

Bigtime thanks, dem, for your well-considered post. Yes, I've often chided myself for still harboring such [normally repressed] animosity. My tactic has been to ignore. But when I'm "singled out" for no earthly reason or pertinent point - it brings back all the private crap & vicious vitriol I was undeservedly "treated to" long long ago. Whipper tried to warn me, but it wasn't until I'd felt the poison that I began to listen. To think - I used to defend him! I'm glad you, or anyone else untainted, never had to put up with such treatment. As I say - I just don't EVER read anything posted by him, unless it's been included in someone else's message.

I try to contribute as and when I can because of my dedication to benj, whom I continue to consider one of the major contributors to the best of web culture. That I've also made some wonderful digi-pals here is a huge bonus.

Viva Marquez! - a bloke who'd find this all very funny indeed.

Even though Marquez was and always will be thought of as a novelist of the highest distinction, that doesn't change the fact that he also adapted his own stories for the screen, wrote screenplays, and even acted and directed in films. To say he has no link to the film industry just means you didn't look at the posted IMDB link.

But more importantly... why the fuck does it matter? What harm does it do to memorialise a writer in one part of the fourum or another? None, whatsoever. It's a fair assumption that you only remarked because it was BaftaBabe who posted it, and as we all know the petty squabble between the two of you sparks at the slightest opportunity. So, what we have as a result is a memorial to the greatest living author now full of pathetic arguments over nothing. Bravo.

This is a joke in itself. What newbies? No one would ever contribute to a forum for the first time where behaviour like this happens at the merest provocation. And we wonder why our community has died.

To be clear I'm not taking sides here - the complete failure to move on and rise above your differences and treat each other with respect applies to both of you. Assigning blame is the way children conduct arguments - for example:

In fact, that's what the Fourum was like before you took it over. The best ever time on this site was before you ever arrived. Just look back at the archives. And it is you that drove away far more interesting people than Josh. Anyone is welcome to read his charming post in F.Y.C.T.H. 1,000 and see whether that is the type of person whose contribution they would like to have.

Hi Sean
As you know I NEVER read anything by Sally the Pedant, but I do read everything you post. So thanks for educating that pontificating person. I'm sure he won't be able to resist pouring out more sarcastic bile, but rest assured, I won't be reading it because life's too short.
