I'm unemployed and bored in San Francisco, so in the spirit of this thread, I've compiled a list of my 100 (or so) favorite filmmakers. Rather than ranking them individually, I've placed them in tiers: I like the Tier 1 filmmakers more than the Tier 2 filmmakers, etc. So without further ado:

Tier 1

Peter Jackson
Chuck Jones
Stanley Kubrick
Martin Scorsese
Steven Spielberg
Billy Wilder
Robert Zemeckis

Tier 2
Darren Aronofsky
Timur Bekmambetov
Danny Boyle
James Cameron
Francis Ford Coppola
Michael Curtiz
Buster Keaton
George Lucas
Christopher Nolan
Orson Welles

Tier 3
Frank Capra
Alfonso Cuaron
Paul Greengrass
Alfred Hitchcock
Steve James
John Lasseter
David Lean
Harold Lloyd (and his director Fred C. Newmeyer)
Hayao Miyazaki
Kirk Wise and Gary Trousdale

Tier 4
Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, and Jerry Zucker
Tim Burton
Cameron Crowe
Spike Lee

Quentin Tarantino

Tier 5
William Castle
George Cukor
Brad Bird
Frank Darabont
Stanley Donen
Sam Fell
Fritz Lang
F.W. Murnau
Ernest B. Schoedsack
Don Siegel

Tier 6
John G. Avildsen

Sidney Lumet
James Whale
Robert Wise

Tier 7
