Although the overall destruction of the rules is largely my fault, I think Basselope gives a good justification. I wonder if I were more Mussolini about vote timing, would the contest be more popular since people would know it runs on time?
This whole thing came about when Duh and me and some others started batting around FWFR haiku. I went nuts with The Matrix (searching for archive... seems to have been dumped), and one of us suggested making a game of it, and lo and behold the Movie Haiku game was born.
I would recommend going through the Rules and Hall of Champs thread and clicking on each of the old haiku game links. There are some real gems in there, not just the "winners" posted in the champs message. In particular, Cheese Ed almost always managed to honor the real traditional haiku format (with a nature theme etc.) and have multiple layers of meaning in them.
Duh has horses, and the horses hate the Haiku game. And I've had major scheduling challenges, so the game almost died. At the moment, I'm not online at home so an extra day or so can go by if one player votes a little later. In one of the first rounds, a participant was disqualified because their votes came in late, but I haven't been that strict and would rather see everyone voting... also exactly per Basselope's observation, in some cases we're holding out for an extra week just to make a game of that round.
To get it more on track, what do people think of a) one of you taking in the votes and calculating with my super Excel vote-counting tool, and/or b) having the winner count the next round's votes (as "host" of that round)?
I have also thought about putting the voting tool online as an experiment, using Google Spreadsheet.
For this round, I've recieved Bafta's votes and am happy to receive the others (checking for Basselope's after this).
Please remember, the votes should look like this:
3 points - user xxx <--- your favorite
2 points - user yyy <--- your 2nd favorite
1 point -- user zzz <--- your 3rd favorite

I've just been perusing the entries to vote--I think you have six syllables in your first stanza, mampers. I'm not sure how strict you guys get over your rules, if there are rules. You could solve this by adding "'" in front of "about" and take out the "a". |

It is a bit ambiguous, since it can take a while for there to be enough entries to justify voting. Composing a good haiku takes a little longer than just pornolizing some movie title. (Although coming up with a clever porno or obit is no easy matter either).
Generally, I vote when someone else mentions it. So I'm off to vote now. |
