What a wonderful movie this was. It left me recalling that there are fewer finer actors out there than the excellent Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Oscar really screwed up when they overlooked his fine, nuanced performance in this stellar film. From his introversion, his fear, his pain, to the outpourings of his grief and love of his family and friends, I was captivated. I know they tout this as a comedy, but I disagree unless one counts the comedic moments in our real lives as simple comedy. The entire film was full of realism - how one deals with life, its high points and its lows. There were no finer moments than those when Gordon-Levitt showed his real emotions. His tenderness with his Alzheimer's stricken father, the gentleness and love. The bonds with his mom. And ultimately, his brotherly bonds with Seth Rogen's Kyle, right from the moment they shared his haircut to when Levitt found the Facing Cancer Together support book in Kyle's bathroom, full of notes and underlines - this is when Adam discovers the depths of the love his friend has for him. What a wonderful journey, what a wonderful film! It both lifted me up and crushed me, made me laugh and made me sob. Who needs anything more?
