I just caught an old Alfred Hitchcock Hour from the early 60's in which Zalman King (the actor), Walter "Chekhov" Koenig and Tony Musante play juvenile delinquents. Into their gang comes a writer who pretends to be a gang member in order to infiltrate and get background info for a news article.
When the gang finds out, puny little Walter smacks the writer around and threatens to slice him open with a knife. The writer is terrified. The writer was played by James Caan and considering who he and Walter later played, it really was some odd casting.
And Zalman made the right move jumping behind the camera.
