I took a photo of a Phalacrocorax carbo today.
How many of you can say that?

I... errmmm.... didn't take a photo of a Phalacrocorax carbo today.
Excellent pic. The only thing wrong with it is it's not a penguin. |

Yes Duh, it's a Great Cormorant.
They used to be exclusively seabirds, but over the past few years some of them have made their way here to London, probably making their way along the Thames, no doubt due to fish shortages at sea. As far as I know its only this year they have made their way to my local park.
Gulls also used to be rare in London but Black-headed Gulls are now very common and increasingly the larger Herring Gulls appear in the park.
When I was a kid, the park lake bird population was almost exclusively Mallards and a couple of Mute Swans. Now there are also lots of Tufted Duck, a few Ruddy Duck, hiding out from their persecutors - for bizarre reasons they are supposed to be extirpated from Europe - untold numbers of Canada Geese, joined by a handful of Greylag Geese. By the waterside there are plenty of Grey Squirrels and more than a couple of - well, lets say really large mice.
The Canada Geese, Ruddy Duck and Grey Squirrels are further proof of how well North Americans can do over here in England - as if Baffy weren't proof enough.
And TitanPa, as you can see by the picture, this is one carbo who's well hydrated.

This site has not been updated in quite a while as Tom Cruise has been keeping a relatively low profile recently, but for those who were enthralled at or were appalled at the couch-jumping, silent-birthing, postpartum-depression-bashing and generally Tomfoolery of last year, here is:
