Frodo really (he's the one 'rambling on') - although Gollum is mentioned in the lyrics.
Here's a great link about the general influence Tolkien's work had on the Zep's lyrics. This is written by a fan, though, so always open to discussion and other interpretations.

Agreed. I know I'm on the minority on this issue, but I like Audioslave better than Rage Against the Machine. To me, the lyrics and themes are much more developed. I also like the lead singer better. Just my opinion though.

Actually I'd heard that she's never revealed who (if anyone) it's actually about, and that there are various candidates including Beatty, Taylor, Jagger etc. |

Actually, a couple years ago, she participated in a Martha's Vineyard auction, where she auctioned that very secret. Dick Ebersole (TV producer married to Susan St. James) won, at $50,000. The only condition was that he couldn't reveal the answer.
