The story, and especially the sad death of Robin Williams, make it clear that it is the end of a franchise.

The lion is (admittedly bizarrely) the national animal of Great Britain, and is for example used to represent the combined British and Irish rugby team. In the case here, people from England, Wales and Northern Ireland rally together.
