Far Left and Fare right documentarys. wonder which one will win in Hollywood.hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Far Left? You think these are Far Left?!!! A quick trawl around the net brings you such theories as: 1. [on the Iraq question, for example] US troop deployments are for the purpose of protecting the oil pipe-lines and coincidentally the profits of Cheney, et al who brokered billions of bucks worth of franchise rights before a single shot had been fired.
2. [on WTC for example] That the attacks were masterminded by factions within the US military on the Pearl Harbor principle to assure international support for neo-con plans to escalate conflict throughout the middle east.
3. [on global warming, for example] That the western powers know that nothing anyone can do from now on will make the slightest bit of difference to climate change, and its inevitability can only be addressed by assuring that power remains with those who already have it.
I can think of at least one publicly accessible documentary which deals with some of these issues. Hollywood, methinks, is looking firmly the other way! sad but true

What did Sacha adapt from, a bunch of cocktail napkins?
I presume it means that Borat appeared on television first.
Absolutely right, Sally, according to this story. |

Posted - 01/24/2007 : 09:55:19 Has anyone seen 'Half Nelson'? I hadn't heard of it before the nominations were announced... Is it any good? Is Ryan Gosling a surprise nomination or does he deserve it over, say, Aaron Eckhart or Sacha Baron Cohen? |

I was looking at a Rolling Stone article and they mentioned A Scanner Darkly for Best Animated film.
I forgot about that. That should definitely have been nominated if eligible, and should have won. |

Posted - 01/24/2007 : 06:26:47 Hehehe. Mel's flim got bupkis!
Nominated for Makeup, Sound and Sound Editing - it's like the booby prize of nominations, considering everything that's been said about the movie. And I can't imagine that Dreamgirls won't take it for Sound - musicals almost always get that one.
Hehehehe!

On 21/1/07 I wrote: The biggest disappointment I had along those lines was Murder By Numbers, which had such a terrific base to be a great film, but fell flat on its face, despite the presence of promising Michael Pitt and Ryan Gosling.
I couldn't be prouder. |

Nope, from the spontaneous responses of his victims.
Yeah - funny movie but I doebt there was much actual writing involved.
There was an article in yesterday's LA Times that showed in detail how the Writers Guild of America, Sacha's team of writers, and the studio that released the film all conclude that Borat was written, there was a screenplay, and it deserves eligibility in the Academy Awards. Even if it does qualify, I think it was inappropriate for voters to vote for it when they could have nominated several other worthy films that fits the description of an adapted screenplay much better. |

Posted - 01/23/2007 : 22:55:55 Yikes, the only movie from that lot I've seen is Water! The pitfalls of living Downunder where we get movies months after the Northern Hemisphere, and then a few months later before the DVD comes out, and then a while after that until it comes to the front of my netflix queue. So, I don't think I'll be bothering to supply an "Oscar guess list" this year.
Many of those are on my "to view" list, but many others I won't be bothering with. |
