It's a tie-in to the release of The Simpsons.
Actually they've changed a few "Americanisms" ... which I think makes the prose less elegant, but hey -- I'm not the editor.
Which ones, you ask ... well
1. My first para ended with "What's up doc?" and my last line was "Th-th-th-that's all folks" -- putting a full stop to the Porky Pig ref
2. My 2nd para called them suburban shlubs -- they changed to boneheads, which doesn't quite equate; and I ended with kick political butt ... which they've anglicized to arse ... sigh!
But the meaning, I think, is all there. I hope you find it interesting. The links at the end of the piece might be of particular interest.

Have just handed in my short review of Brief Encounter for Friday's edition. Bit of a nightmare meeting the deadline since my computer's power supply unit packed up when I turned it on this morning. Have spent all day variously writing my review using a neighbour's computer [luckily the day BEFORE they fly off to the USA] - and taking my CPU down near Brighton to get a new power supply unit from a company that actually had one in stock and could fix it while I waited. Hence my lateness in posting on various threads today.
Sorry.
Fixed now, though!!!
