Was wondering if there will be a possible FWFR UK meeting this year? Is anyone doing anything like that this summer as such?

You weren't so far from me - I was at a festival in Aldermaston? or close by. It turned into a complete mud fest and there were all kinds of problems, not least people's tents being washed away and the lorries not being able to reach the portaloos and empty them.

I was so peed off at not being able to make it, this was probably my one chance for a fwfr meet up any time in the next 12 months - fwfrers are a bit thin on the ground in my neck of the wood.
Sounds so lame, to be 'rained off', but it took me over 10 hours to drive the 55 miles from London to Newbury the day before, and all the forecasts were for equivalent chaos the following day.

Wish I'd been there! The only two fwiffers I've ever met in person have been such wonderful company that I say, like my president, bring 'em on!

That's a combination of Whipper's photography skills, a lower view-point makes the subject look taller and, ahem, slimmer (thanks for that Whipper)and in the case of the 2nd photo, a very small pub.

Actually I'm being slightly harsh and I think it may even scrape a 3*, but it's definately over rated by the critics. Speaking of which, I'll be over to BBabe's review of it once I've posted.
It would have been nice to stay a bit longer for more drinks or food but I was still slightly hung over from a leaving do the night before and feeling a little delicate. Still, hopefully I'll be fighting fit for the next one and we'll fit in a slightly more jolly film and a meal afterwards.
I did take a photo of the others in the pub but frankly the flash was too harsh and it's pretty poor. Mampers took one as well which hopefully came out better.

Maybe it was for the best as there were travelling difficulties getting from the West of England to London, hence Bife's non-attendance. You might well have not made it either!

Sounds like you all had a jolly good time with lashings of ...eh..beer.
Pity to have missed it but it was just a bad timing, people to do things to see and all that.

Ah, my old haunting ground. I lived in Bedford Avenue and then Great Russell Street for years. One of the best things was being able to explore the British Museum whenever I felt like it. Well, maybe the pubs were the best thing Not the traffic, shops or crowds, though. So weird to think I used to be such a city girl....

Glad to hear it went well. I didn't think I could make it, and then on Friday the weather made up my mind for me: I was lucky to get home from Warwickshire (50 miles from here a lot of people spent the night in their cars on the motorway) to Shropshire. 
Presumably the date was chosen because you can be almost certain of good weather in London in late July. For my part, I'm making urgent preparations to adapt to the climate change scenario predicted for the UK: drier summers and wetter winters, with more storms ... in the spring and autumn. |
