Posted - 02/21/2007 : 03:02:59 OK, there are plenty of cricaholics here, so I might as well start a thread for the upcoming Cricket World Cup.
Thread rules:- Discuss, whinge, gloat, cry... whatever you like as long as it's cricket-related. |

Posted - 04/29/2007 : 00:19:44 I got up at 4.30am and just missed the Gilly innings. The end was truly farcical... they really need to play the final at a stadium with light towers to prevent batsmen needing mining helmets to see the ball. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie... oi, oi, oi. |

Posted - 04/29/2007 : 00:11:27 What was going on there?, they needed to bring out a glow in the dark ball.
Gilly was just too good. |

Posted - 04/26/2007 : 03:57:44 Too much of NZ's middle order is misfiring at the moment. Typical of Kiwis, they look excellent about 2 months before the WC, chase down 330-350 on a regular basis... now struggle to get 200.
Aus looked a bit fragile a couple of months ago, first they lost the CB tri-series 2-0, then were whipped 3-0 in the C-H series ... and now they look invincible.
So, I reckon Aus will win this one and make it a hat-trick. |

Posted - 04/24/2007 : 23:58:10 Sorry to see the Kiwis missed out, Sean.
Hopefully the Aussies will give the Proteas a drubbing - with their poor performances in the Cup they were very lucky to make the semis.
Yep, it was a drubbing. |

Yep, Bond is key for us. And when we've conceded 348 the batsmen have to go for it, and will probably either get close or collapse spectacularly. And on top of that is the knowledge that it doesn't count and won't change the semis at all, hence the capitulation.
I think Aus are bowling a lot better than they did in the Chappell-Hadlee series, so 348 should have been more than enough, and it sure was enough. It ended up being NZ's worst ODI loss, ever.
I'd guess that the best thing that NZ could do now is to try to forget about it, although I think the confidence in general is inevitably going to have been dented in a big way.
OK, prediction time. The final will be AUS - SRI and AUS will win it. .. ..[suicidal smiley]... |

Posted - 04/21/2007 : 01:06:30 Damn. Did Hayden & Hogg have a fun match against the Kiwis or what? Hussey also had a chance to spend some in the middle. It's amazing the difference to the NZ attack that Bond makes.
"The 215-run margin was the biggest World Cup win in a match between two Test-playing nations."
After the chases that NZ pulled off in the Chappell-Hadlee series I was worried that 6/348 might not be enough. |

Same for Malinga and Vaas. Something tells me they'll all be in good shape for the finals. |

AUS and probably Sri Lanka for the final. With my success at prediction, Sean will be a happy boy.
I fear you may be right. SL are looking pretty ominous. It may come down to winning the toss; the mornings have been pretty hard on openers. If NZ bats first I can't see us getting the 300 runs against The Slinger and Chuckeritheran that we'd need. |

Sorry Chris, that's already into week 3. I was too busy to even think about starting the comp this year.

Last four in the competition will be England, The Windies, and two from the Aussies, Sri Lanka and South Africa. I can't see NZ, India or Pakistan doing much.
Chomp chomp... chew... mmmm, tasty words!
OK, the semifinalists are decided and are AUS, NZL, SRI, SAF and the semis are most likely to be:-
NZL - SRI AUS - SAF
unless NZ thrashes Aus this weekend, which is not terribly likely, in which case the teams are swapped. |
