It doesn't excuse the fact that they hadn't confirmed his identity. If they were after de Menenzes that would have been relevant, I suppose. But it is unbelievable that they shot a man multiple times and they didn't know who he was

They got away with it by saying that it caused him to act in a suspicious way, but there is no evidence of that.

Well, I'm of the belief that a defense attorney has an obligation to do whatever he or she can do to help their client. It's the job of the judge to block attorneys from presenting irrelevant facts into evidence that are intended to distract the jury from the relevant facts. I'm no expert on the British legal system, but considering that 49 US states have a system of Common Law that's directly evolved from English Common Law, I'm very surprised a judge allowed that because it probably wouldn't have been allowed over here.

The first rule in ANY police force, no matter what part of the world: protect your own, no matter what. If mistakes are made, circle the wagons, deny everything, blame the victim...it's their word against the entire force.

It was also dreadful of the prosecution to talk about de Menezes being an illegal immigrant and having taken cocaine, as if that had anything to do with it.

I get The Wrap by email, and I see that the British press are hounding him. I wonder if he'll finally just give it up.

I suppose that's my point. What you look like is irrelevant.

I used to hang out with a group of bikers in London - courier riders. My friend was a big, burly bloke, big beard, leathers etc. But he was the lovliest person and his crew were just regular chaps. Rene won a medal in the Falklands War for saving fellow soldiers on a ship that was attacked. Everywhere we went he and his mates were targetted for the way they looked, and the bikes they rode. On a ferry crossing to France we were all taken aside and they were searched and their bikes inspected for no reason at all.

Mmmmmm. They are saying that there is guilt - but nobody's head has rolled. There is a fatal flaw - they did not establish the identity of the 'suspect'. If they don't punish someone for that, it's yet another step towards a police state.
