I'm thoroughly exhausted, but am thrilled to report our launch day yesterday was a huge success!

We got a couple of hits in the local rag [they sent a photographer on the day] and an interview on local radio - all of which brought in some enthusiastic shoppers. I printed and distributed about a zillion leaflets - until my printer started acting up ... something about the waste toner tray, which I've now cleaned, and it prints but only with the front casing off ... which is a drag, however ...

Thinking positive - we had local producers and farmers with their organic lamb, mutton, ducks, chickens, bacon, offal, venison, sausages, pork and gammon; organic eggs; four varieties of apple - one crispy red one called Saturn developed by the National Botanical research centre nearby plus home-made apple juice; oriental and exotic salad leaves; beautiful autumn chard, and about a dozen varieties of squashes and pumpkins. Also homemade pickles, mustards, chutneys and preserves, including an award-winning horseradish mustard. And locally produced ewes-milk and cows-milk cheeses, including a smoked variety. And, handmade decorated gift bags, soaps, and other toiletries made with organic lavender. Lots of stuff sold out or nearly.

There was a steady trickle of happy shoppers, with a big surge just before lunch-time. All the farmers said it a big success for them, which for me was the best news of all.

And I got scads of compliments on the website - so many thanks especially to benj and Turrell for your valuable comments. People said it was so easy to use and to navigate around, and they liked the all the little moving images. The apple lady had brought her daughter who said she really liked the games!

Next time we hope to have an even bigger choice - drinking yogurts, root vegetables, etc.

I deputized for the High Weald Dairy cheese people who couldn't make it but dropped off the cheese - I've never sold anything before at a market like that. It went really well, but, although there were chairs, I never sat down once - I can't remember how many decades it's been since I've stood for so many hours at a time. When I got home I could hardly move! No trouble sleeping!!

Today, though, I'm fine and tired and very very happy. And in two weeks -- it happens all over again!

Thanks one and all! Of course everyone's welcome if you're in the nabe on the day :)

Good news - we just got Emma's Cakes -- homemade organic gingerbread houses and gbread people; tea bread; rock cakes [yes, we've heard all the jokes]!!

PLUS - Court Lodge Farm's organic drinking yogurts and cheeses!

I'll report back after Sat. Meanwhile, I just have to proofread the rom-com fantasy I've been co-writing and send it off to a film producer pal tomorrow am ... plus do a tie-in piece on The Golden Compass, which I've just seen.

Oh, yes, and there's that little matter of trying to get my printer fixed - or bite the bullet, ditch it and get another.

Did I mention I'm just about to start on a website for a children's author client?

Sleep ... what is this strange concept you refer to?

It sounds really great

(apart from those pieces of dead animals lying around the place ).

Nice one Baffy, I hope that my next trip down that way coincides with a market day.

Looks great.

I'll drop you a line, BB. I have a particular interest in good farmers' markets.

Way cool! (BTW, I had no difficulty in figuring out how to get to the site correctly.)

Not to be picky, but they messed up the link to your site- can you get them to correct it?
