Posted - 04/24/2008 : 02:11:29 Tonight Jessie Martin's final appearance on L&O will air. It seems there may be something shady in Ed Green's past that will be revealed.
Apparently, Anthony Anderson will be brought in to play Ed Green's replacement. While I will miss Martin, I look forward to seeing more of Anderson, whom we've seen play a dramatic bad guy role in The Shield, and comedy with equal skill in Scary Movie 4. Anderson also starred on the poorly written Kville.
I haven't become accustomed to McCoy as District Attorney. We were shown all along how McCoy was not much of a politician...so how is he faring as DA? My son and I enjoyed Adam Schiff's grumpiness and we enjoyed Arthur Branch's political pragmatism.
I haven't yet become accustomed to Rubirosa, either. The actress who plays her is incredibly, perfectly beautiful, but perhaps TOO perfect. She is too sculptural. Angie Harmon and Elizabeth Rohm were beautiful but also human. I would find Rubirosa more entertaining if she were less icy and more temperamental or if she had some kind of insecurity. Better yet, let her have some kind of bizarre personal life...let her be a biker chick or a gay activist, or let her be president of the Canary Breeders Association. |

Law and Order hasn't been the same for me since the departure - and subsequent death - of Jerry Orbach. There was something comfortably appealing about his cop, and they brought in (excuse me?) Dennis Farina to replace him? One of my favorite Orbach episodes is still the one in which his daughter was killed. Sheesh.
Hey whl! Thanks for reminding me of one of my favorites too! Jerry Orbach - great comic timing, that shambling slept-in face. So, just for you, I've now made an accolade in his [and your] honor
How cool!! Thank you. Jerry Orbach was co-starring in Woman of the Year on Broadway way too many years ago, when Raquel Welch was the star. We saw the show and my ex-husband had huge hots for Raquel. He managed to steer us every night to the stage door, trying to get an autograph. Each night, he failed. Now, my ex was a big old bear of a man, and apparently Welch's husband had noticed him all those nights, so the last night we were in town, hubby motioned to the ex to come forward and get his poster signed. Meanwhile, other cast members had to try and snake around the awaiting crowd to leave and that's when I found myself face-to-face with Jerry Orbach. He seemed genuinely pleased to be asked to sign my Playbill.
What's weird about all of this is that when I went over to Internet Broadway Database to check the date, it isn't listed. It shows Raquel Welch doing the show in December 1981 and no other time, but it was in the spring of 1983 when I saw this. They don't even list Jerry Orbach as having been in the production. Perhaps it was a special limited run. Or perhaps the IBDB isn't all its cracked up to be. A few years later, with another ex, we went to see 42nd Street, which at the time was also starring Jerry Orbach and Peggy Cass, and a fairly unknown, except to fans of The Guiding Light, Lisa Brown (who played Nola Reardon). They were all gracious and signed our Playbills. But Peggy Cass wanted to talk about Indiana and how much she liked it. Of course, the IBDB doesn't list Lisa Brown as having been in 42nd Street at any time, but I saw her. |

I think Waterston's struggling a bit with the transition, and I, too, miss the grim nihilism of Adam Schiff. I think one of my favorite assistants was Claire (Jill Hennessey), whose death in the car wreck sparked another good Orbach moment, followed by Jamie (Carey Lowell, who went on to better things like reproducing with Richard Gere). But I believe that they've used the gay card before with Elisabeth Roehm, didn't they?
I can't recall, wasn't Anthony Anderson the detective that came in to an SVU episode that dealt with kid cruelty to other kids who were overweight? And he left because he couldn't handle it? Or am I confusing him with someone else? |
