I thought the funniest part was the priest saying the Catholic Church wouldn't want to encourage any superstition!

Well let me shed some light, the Vatican are afraid to lay any claim to the potential shrine as the last time they attempted to upgrade a shrine (The Holy Stone of Clonrichert) from a class three to a class two relic in Ireland, one bishop died, another left the church altogether and the Holy Stone itself ended up in the rectum of a third Bishop.
They are being understandably cautious.

A rotten telegraph pole was just taken down from our garden a few minutes ago. I'd better get out there and inspect it for miraculous rot formations.
