Which reminds me that a bird in the hand isn't really worth two in the bush, its worth a hand full of birdshit!

Depends on the birds. It's a sin to kill a mockingbird.

Reminds me of one of the funniest lines in "Failure to Launch"!

Well, I will personally tie your boxing gloves and put the orange in your mouth if you will organize a delegation to march on the White House and tell the Shrub to stop mutilating the perfectly good, decent, honest, clearly pronouncable word 'nuclear'. Not only have many of his accolytes started mis-pronouncing the word in His Aural Image as 'noo-cu-lar' but it even affected puppy-Blair in one press conference, and now [shudder] I have even heard some BBC announcers following suit.

Although it does hurt to hear it, nuclear/nucular is as harmless to the language as is potayto/potahto. I've even heard it used like "I fink" to denote class in America; listen to Michael Douglas pronounce the word in THE CHINA SYNDROME, for example.

Pronunciation is a funny thing. Most Southerners I know have never employed the glottal stop required to "correctly" pronounce the word "masks"; it comes out "mass." They have trouble with the "sch" sound...it's foreign to them: "Sslitz beer." But in all cases, the linguistic meaning is still clear. [I can make Jewish friends howl by imitating a fictitious Southern Jew: "You sssmuuuck!"]

Where I get really mad is when the actual meaning is clouded, most of the time by ignorance. [Bush: "They misunderestimated me." "Is our children learning?" He's such a prime mover that I've used a George W. Bushisms page-a-day calendar with a different idiotic quote every day since, ahem, the turn of the century.]

One of the single funniest moments in the history of SNL. That sketch will go down as one of the all-time classics.

Possibly the most misused word today is "ironic." Something that happens to be interesting, unusual, coincidental, or anything that "really makes you think," is not necessarily "ironic."

Oh, I thought it was "a sin to tell a lie" ... well, that's according to Fats Waller

The Byrds in your record collection is worth two Bushes in the White House.

Hell, that whole Alanis Morrisette song - the only thing ironic about it is that nothing in the whole song is actually ironic!
