Super thrilled congratulations to The Fox GirlMom and The Fox Boy Dad! We want the vital statistics! Gender! Weight! Length! Name! How long was the labor? Did The Fox Girl call you any nasty names while she was in labor? What do the Westies think of the new family member? (Not you, Conan.) |

Hi All, yes I became a dad on November 23. Thanks to you all for your wishes and to the couple of you that sent me an email of congrats. Ok the details...... Gender: Male Name: Adam Stewart Weight: 3340grams or 7 pound 6 Length: 50cms
How long was labor? Well, thefoxmum and I were up playing backgammon till about 11:30pm on Wednesday (22nd of November) night, baby was due on the 27th, and got to bed at midnight. thefoxmum wasn't feeling too well with stomach cramps and she got up at around 12:15am, I was already asleep . So she was up till 3am and then woke me up saying that she was ill, I asked if they were contractions, "I don't think so, how the hell do I know? I haven't been pregnant before!" So I got up and watched here and timed the pain she was having and got here to ring the hospital. It was 5:15am when she rang and they told her to time for another 30mins and call back. We did that and they told us to go in. I had packed a few items of goodies that I had sold on eBay and went to the hospital via the mailbox, ok, I usually get her to get out of the car, but I did it this time. . We got to the hospital at 6:30am and the midwife checked her out and she was already at 5cm dilated , for anyone that doesn't know, they make you start pushing at 10cms. The midwife said that most turn up at the hospital at 1cm or less. We had decided that thefoxmum would try to give birth with no pain relief, the midwife looked at us as if we were joking. With that reaction we gathered most mums to be must take at least the gas. So being the support person, I got thefoxmum in a nice deep bath, she was in that for about 30mins and then she got out and was pacing around the birthing suite. She was on her feet till she got to 10cms and only then she got on the bed. With the next contraction she gave a big push and I could she the top of baby's head, amazing. Midwife quickly rang our obstetrician and he got there within 10mins. Within two more contractions, baby was born at 10:38am. What an amazing thing, thefoxmum is my hero.
I always knew that becoming a parent was special, but had no idea now special.
Adam was put onto mummys chest of 5mins of skin to skin bonding before they gave him a checkup. Here is a photo of him at 6mins of age. WARNING: He's naked.
No, thefoxmum didn't call me any nasty names. The westies are still to meet Adam, but they had a good sniff of the clothes he was wearing today. thefoxmum and Adam will be home on Monday. |

Aaaahhhh... One forgets just how TINY newborn people are!
Please tell thefoxmum how PROUD I am of her! (I had undrugged childbirth too.) I understand that it isn't something that should reasonably be expected of every mother, but she deserves extra credit for giving little Adam every possible advantage. |

Ah, bravo! He looks lovely and very health. Good size, too. And I love the name Adam.
I had all three of mine without pain killers - mostly because they don't do the gas here and an epidural can't be administered if you have low bloodpressure like I have. But I was more relaxed with my first than you were. Went to see the movie "The Return of Martin Guere" with my contractions. After the movie, when we got home, a midwife who lived in our building checked me and found me 8cm dialated! Got to the hospital after midnight and #1 son was born at 3am.
Enjoy being a father and my very best wishes to foxmum who sounds like my kinda gal!
(And a kiss on the top of foxbaby's head from me, please.)

Thefoxfamily,
I wish you all the very very best, it is a truely special time and I hope that you enjoy it as a family.
Mrs cat only had the gas and air and to be fair it was for peace of mind rather than the pain relief side (she tells me it was bloody painful even with the gas so she thinks it did her no good!)
I wish you all the very best and take as much time off as you can thefoxmum deserves all the support that she can get.
By the way who won at backgammon? I taught my wife and now she whoops me (at backgammon) frequentley.
Love to you all thefoxfamily

Adam: apple of foxy's eye
Goodness, when I sent my e-mail I had no idea that your wife had not used pain relief. The combination of pain ceasing and seeing her baby for the first time must have been completely amazing. |
