I am. I admit it. I was trying to avoid listening to Dubya and his State of the Union message tonight, and could only find Dances With Wolves on AMC to watch. I've always kind of liked this film. I really liked Mary McDonnell and her excellent portrayal. And I found it quite emotional at places. So where am I a wuss? I can watch all the slaughter and fighting between the Natives and the soldiers, but everytime it gets to the part where they shoot his horse and then kill that wolf, I have to change the channel. I'm a wuss.

Yeah the shooting the wolf part is horrible.
I like the movie too.

That's 'cos animals never deserve it, but humans often do.

That's what DVDs are for, so you can watch anything you want. Something not involving animal slaughter.

I'm an animal lover. I don't think it helped with this particular viewing since my cat is in the vet hospital for bladder surgery after 2 very long, difficult months of medications, catheters, pain, yowling, hiding and finally deciding to operate. If this doesn't work... well, you know.

Cat's are not one of my favourites, but I do love all animals.
I really hope all goes well with your baby.

Thank you. It just seems to go on and on. I talked to the vet this morning and she's discovered an antibiotic resistant bacterial infection in his bladder so he's on extreme iv medication. I just don't know that I'm sure I know when enough is enough. *sigh*

It's hard to tell. Your pet is young, so I would err on the side of fighting. If he were older, I would say let him go. But at 2 1/2, he's almost still a kitten. We had to put our cat down a few years ago. Horrible. Still miss him. But he was 16 years old. And it was obvious his body was breaking down and he wasn't going to get better.

I'm sorry that it is not looking good for your pet at this time. Whatever decision you make, I'm sure you'll make with love and with his best interests at heart. That's really all you can do.

EM :)

the part of that movie that always gets me is when Wind In His Hair yells at Dances With Wolves as he rides away.

I'm telling you they really screwed up with this movie. If they had named the guy "Wind Beneath Wings" they could have had Bette Middler do the themesong!

I can't remember crying much when my grandparents died but I bawled like a baby when I had to have my dog put to sleep.

I think it's got to do with the unconditional love part of the owner/pet relationship. You take this animal into your life and they give you their trust, love and companionship and don't ask for anything much in return. They are there to comfort you when you're alone, to go with you wherever you choose, and love you when you feel unloved. We take them into our lives willingly, and have the power of determining when they go. It's a powerful responsibility, especially when it's time for them to go.

Fingers crossed. Last night I was interrupted during a meeting to be told that one of our cats had returned home looking dreadful. He had blood coming from one eye and was looking dazed. On further examination he had bite marks, and it seemed he'd been a in a fight. My wife took him down to the vet and he was treated. His eye seems to be okay: the scratch/cut is in the corner. We think it might have been a dog that bit him, so my main concern now is that he might have internal injuries. He's still feeling very sorry for himself and is currently lying on the carpet near my chair. He can walk, and is beginning to show an interest in nicking our food - a sure sign he's (slowly) returning to normal. Worrying though. Poor lad's only a few months old.

And we do!! Sounds like he's bouncing back, Koli. The vet has always told me that as long as they are eating, drinking and using the litterbox, they are in fairly good shape. Having said that, though, I talked to the vet this morning and I'm frustrated. My Ralph is eating, drinking and going, but he's still showing pain when he urinates. They took the IV out this morning after 9 days as his leg was getting sore. She said I could bring him home, but I would have to bring him in each day for an injection of the antibiotic he's been getting. Since I don't drive, I opted to leave him in for the weekend. We miss him like crazy. The antibiotic resistant bladder infection is very persistent and I'm starting to question the next step. I can't afford much more, and I can't leave him there forever.
