I just watched What Dreams May Come again and that has to be the saddest movie I've ever seen. I am just a mess when I watch it.

Which led me to the thought to ask you fwfr people.
What's your --
Saddest movie?
Funniest movie?
Scariest movie?
Most Thrilling movie?

And any other categories anyone wants to add.

Let's list and discuss.

I agree with Sean about Braindead (Peter Jackson). I stumbled on that at a late night showing in Brixton, London years ago.

But also Airplane - still makes me laugh

Saddest movie I've ever seen is Bergman's "Cries And Whispers" which is almost physically painful to watch.

From Ebert's review:

Bergman never made another film this painful. To see it is to touch the extremes of human feeling. It is so personal, so penetrating of privacy, we almost want to look away.

As for "What Dreams May Come" this film seems to divide people. I'm firmly in the "This is a large pile of doo-doo" camp, but here's the link to Rotten Tomatoes to show how different people can see the same film so differently:

Although I can see both sides of the argument very clearly, I must say that What Dreams May Come worked for me despite some of its story problems. It is a part of my DVD collection is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful films ever made. I have trouble accepting the way the What Dreams May Come deals with suicides and the happy ending has always bothered me, but up until that point, I find the film incredibly stimulating to the imagination and appreciate the level of artistry that went into its making. Consider:

Robin Williams in what I think is one of his greatest performances.
Annabella Sciora in an equally convincing performance.
Max von Sydow in a role that kind of echos his performance in The Seventh Seal.
The painterly cinematography by Eduardo Serra (who later was nominated for an Oscar for the painterly Girl with the Pearl Earring)
Production design and visual effects unequalled in its imaginativeness.
A full soundtrack of earth, heaven, hell, and beyond reflecting the human condition while making an imaginary world seem real and tangible.

For all of these qualities, I feel like What Dreams May Come more than compensates for its philosophical and story-related flaws and what some have (unfairly) described as Hallmark card sentimentality. That said, I don't think What Dreams May Come is the saddest movie I've ever seen. Requiem for a Dream, Grave of the Fireflies, and any good film about the Holocaust move me to tears much more easily than What Dreams May Come.

Saddest movie? Schindler's List (also the best movie ever made in my opinion)
Funniest movie? This is Spinal Tap
Scariest movie? The Shining - watched this a couple years ago with my wife and she fell asleep and I could barely stand to watch during the tricycke scene - that is one cray movie/
Most Thrilling movie? Harder category but the first film that comes to mind was Ransom - my heart rate was elevated throughout the film - maybe not the most thrilling, but certainly thrilling for a very high percentage of the film.

I cannot say that that movie captured my imagination but i do remember being very impressed by the "paintings scenes" and I seem to remember something about a beautiful air hostess.
