I'll clue ya: aging is a 'best kept secret.' I feel better and have more fun now at 52 than I ever did before. The supposed youth-preference of the culture is waaaay out of whack. I laugh at the commercials for products designed to make one look younger.

Happy birthday Sean!

40 isn't such a bad birthday. The worst I remember was my 29th when I thought: my god, you're nearly 30, and what have you done? (More than two decades later I've got used to it.)

Votes left in the usual place.

Hahaha, just the other day I was at this birthday, and the birthday girl got a stuffed penguin, which was a not only a hit present but a hit conversation topic.
And now I'm opening this thread and the instances made me chuckle. I'm certain Sean has a full room of penguinos, so I was thinking maybe to a gift him with a stuffed plankton... or some stuffed votes? Ok, stuffed votes. Best wishes, you.

Wow! Thanks, folks! I don't really feel much older. But perhaps the time has come to grow up, stop sniggering at dirty jokes, stop running FWPT and become more mature? Or perhaps not...

Actually I was hoping to let this one slip under the radar, but the family wouldn't let it happen. It ended up with a suprise party on Saturday, my best friend drove up from down south for the event (about a 5 hour drive) without me having a clue about it, then dinner at a Japanese restaurant.

I had two very memorable presents too. On Wednesday my lovely niece Sophie (she's 14) spent all day cooking a delicious 5-course Indian meal (all from raw ingredients, no jars of prepared stuff) for me and a few family members. Suffice to say it was delicious and appreciated by all. Yum! I cook Indian food myself and am well aware how time consuming it is to cook. A single course can take 1.5 - 2 hours.

Then my awesome nephew Zack (he's 13) gave me the usual cryptographic birthday card. My birthday coincides with the school holidays here, and for the last 5 years or so Zack has specialised in a home-made birthday card with increasing levels of cryptography. E.g., last year's took me about 45 minutes to solve, the one before that about half an hour. Well, nothing could have prepared me for this year's effort. (It was in a penguin envelope of course - a baby Emperor). It took him about 3-4 days to create, and took me at least a couple of hours to solve. It contained secret compartments (so well hidden I couldn't even see them when held up to the light), image-letter associations, a page full of numbers that I needed to use predictive text on my mobile to solve in order to get a string of letters that I had to reference against Zack's special one-time key in order to get the real message which I was then able to use to find the card's secret compartment with a hidden message explaining how the next code worked that would allow me to get the final message... telling me what my birthday present was! Man, I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to next year's card.

So, it was a good weekend all up, and I don't feel a day older or a day more mature!

Oh, and then I logged onto fwfr this morning and found a heap of fresh votes! Thanks folks, and I'll have a crack at checking out the pages of all the well wishers over the next week or so.

You would fit right in my family, Sean. My oldest son's birthday was yesterday and kolo's birthday is today. Happy Birthday!

We, also, had dinner at a Japanese restaurant after my granddaughter's first communion, yesterday (it's still the 23rd here).

Sorry I'm late, but as you're slowing down as you approach old age that shouldn't cause a problem. It doesn't seem to for those of us that are already there.

Happy 40th birthday, Sean.

Good God! 40? I assumed Sean was about 13, just a bit older than foxy. Shows you what I know.

(Belated) Happy Birthday mate. You're one of the true voices of reason on this site, I can't remember a time I've disagreed with anything you've said.

So you have agreed with him when he calls me a tosser?
You got the ages the wrong way round, I'm a bit older than Sean.

Yeah, me too.

It's just what he writes I disagree with.

Ah, well there's something you have to understand foxy. When I read what anyone writes on this forum I tend to hear it in my head in the accent of the country from which they come, and the Kiwi accent sounds so much more refined than the Australian accent that it comes with added authority. So I believe everything he says.
