I guess she's starting to react to those flower petals growing out of her head.

If I can't be number one on google at least I can be a winner here.

Driving home from the farm tonight, in the rain, as I started across a bridge, I saw a doe and a tiny newborn fawn on the bridge in front of me.

I knew the fawn must be newborn because it was so tiny and also because it seemed so bewildered, like a newborn foal. I wondered if the doe was a new mother and inexpert in tending her baby.

I wasn't going to just drive by and leave the infant on the bridge. Babies are babies, and bring out one's protective instincts. (OK, so if it had been something with sharp teeth that was possbily rabid, I wouldn't have taken a chance even though it would have had my sympathy.)

I turned on the flashers on my truck, stopped, and got out. The doe slipped away into the pasture on the northwest side of the bridge.

The fawn started to follow her but she was too fast for him and he stood at the far end of the bridge. I went to him and gathered him up into my arms. He weighed no more than a house cat. He was warm and trusting and I could feel the beating of his little heart against my hand under his chest.

I carried him across the ditch over to the pasture his mother had gone into, and set him down on the other side of the fence. He curled up in the tall grass and I hope he waited for his mama to come fetch him.

I was thrilled to have had that experience. Fawns are so beautiful with their white spotted red coats and it is a rare treat to get to see one so young. I never dreamed that I would ever hold a wild fawn in my arms.

Consider the daisy...and while you're doing that, I'll be over here winning.

I have to admire someone who would save Bambi. There are so many deer around here that I'm afraid people don't appreciate the sheer beauty and wildness of them.

But I win.

Trophies are symbolism. Symbolism for being done. Once you're done, you can't win, therefore, I win.

In the immortal words of Randy Bachman:

She's come undun
She didn't know what she was headed for
And when I found what she was headed for
It was too late

OMG, I just realized I was quoting lyrics from a song that was a hit 38 years ago...

Let's all get up and dance to a song that was a hit before your mother was born. Though she was born a long, long time ago, your mother should know, yeah, yeah, your mother should know, yeah!
