And if that same person is concerned also with chocolate, then all the better, correct?
Now, in order to celebrate my birthday today, no one else will post to this thread until midnight FWFR time. (And no, I don't care that FWFR time is GMT and I live GMT+2.)
Thank you for your cooperation - I couldn't have wished for a nicer 50th birthday present!

Happy bday, Chocky.
I'm very tired today. Sometime within the past two days, I went for 24 hours without sleep, trying to solve an ASP coding challenge I'd given myself.
As you know, due to my considerable immodesty, I wrote what seems to be the world's first ASP code for downloading and saving Youtube videos.
The next thing I wanted to do was write ASP code so that one can dynamically bring selected Youtube playlists onto their own site. There were ways to do that, sorta, but I wanted it to be REALLY dynamic and on-the-fly.
I could have used 'screen-scraping' code and then parsed it for the parts needed. But I saw that Youtube, under its Developer APIs, offers dynamic XML pages of users' playlists. That would save me lots of work on the parsing.
Next problem: how to process the XML. The logical way to do it would be by using XSL 'stylesheets'. I'd never worked with that before. But try as I did, I couldn't get that particular XML to render HTML with the XSL file. So, I had to try a different angle
I continued to search until I finally found an ASP code snippet that could be modified to do what I needed. It iterates through the XML and formats each line to one's specifications.
The next issue was to consider, how would I handle the paging for a multitude of videos?
I remembered code I had previously modified that iterated through all the images in a folder then put them into a recordset with paging.
I got that and adapted it for the XML feed items.
So, the hard work (the fun part?) is done. All I have to do now is the more ordinary work of writing html for how I want to display the playlist.
Here's my plan: When I get the code finished, I will use it for videos I've been recording of the Paint Horse Championship Show. I have a playlist on Youtube especially for those. I want to set up the domain name painthorsevideos.com and then have it dynamically show the videos I've recorded, feeding from Youtube but appearing on my own site.
I also want to display the APHA world show sponsor's banners -- that is a big reason I want to do the playlist like this rather than directly on Youtube...I want to keep the Association happy and to avoid objections to the recordings I'm making. I can do that by dynamically displaying their own ad banners with the playlist.
I like using Youtube because it converts all uploaded files to Flash which makes them stream and easy for people to view. I could do my own Flash conversions, but Youtube combines two steps into one: the conversion and the uploading. Plus, the videos get lots more traffic via Youtube.
Anyhow, I really enjoy these coding challenges. I get obsessed by them. I'm not 'good' at it, but I'm persistent.
Kudos to the next winner, btw. |

Well, I understood about 3 words of that ... so my question is: how would I upload my own flash files to any of those sites? Or is that a total no-no?

I see two different angles to your question, so will propose answers to both:
If you mean, bypassing Youtube and uploading directly to the site that displays the playlist...yeah, you could do that too and combine them. There are also scripts and components that can do user emulation for form input and follow http redirects, etc.
Uploading Flash files to Youtube: I've tried that and the quality suffers with the reconversion their server does. I've had good luck with windows media and mpg files.

I thought Chocky didn't want us to post as a birthday prezzie to her.
Happy Birthday, ChocolateLady.
Repost and hopefully, no one will post again until your birthday is over.
I assume you meant midnight of today -- 6/26/07.

I thought Chocky meant Israeli time. (I get confused.)
BTW, here's the demo to my Youtube playlist XML parser: http://equineexpo.com/aspexamples/youtu/parseplaylist.asp
