that he likes the current edit on the fwfr page.
I've come across "less than friendly" Wiki-nerds in the past; I see them as back-room editors who edit stuff in their spare time as their main hobby. Unfriendly, pedantic and sarcastic seems to be the norm.
Unfriendliness aside, I think what's happened to the Wiki fwfr page is a case of "the system working", i.e., a major prune occurred, stuff got put back in, other stuff got re-written, and subsequent 'pruning' and editing will become more and more minor resulting in a smart looking page that's well-structured, concise and contains relevant information but nothing more.
Seems like JFG (wonder if he thinks the initials are a mis-spelling?) is trying to say that he likes us (or rather fwfr) to some degree, in his backwards, I've never had friends, sort of way.
He likes us. I feel just like Sally Field.

That rings a bell but I cannot now find it. Was it in your opening post and edited out, or is it somewhere else? (If the latter, it doesn't matter, as he started ranting after your opening post.) |

| One final comment I have, which I may add to his page, is that this has really put me off Wikipedia. I have always loved it, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth now. I had only ever made minor corrections as I came across things here and there, but had vaguely planned to get more involved at some point - I cannot imagine doing that now if this is what the people are like. As you all know, I do not mind insistence on precision, but JFG's misguided attempts at this are just annoying. |

So I've argued all I want to about this on Wikipedia. As in other times in my life, I weary of carrying on a battle of wits against an unarmed person. I am going to find out how to block buddy from posting on my user talk page anymore. However, I do take point that the article needs references, so I am endeavoring to add those. (argh!)
Koli, you were wrong to call him a nerd, he doesn't qualify. However, he is a nerd wanna-be. He doesn't speak to any common theme, instead he is all over the place.
And Rgoodermote is a self-confessed administrator wanna-be. He can watch Koli, Salopian, Chocky or myself 'til the cows come home. He has no power. I have only one question - does anyone know who the person is using the Tomdup?

That's a shame. I was hoping that if I run into any other JFGs at Wiki that I could set you upon them.
I'm not sure if I'm the only one, but I found this whole thing hilarious. I wasn't involved though, otherwise it may have been somewhat less entertaining. |

| I think the Fitz is probably about 12 years old, or if he's older, he's got a 3rd grade education, judging from his spelling and grammar mistakes. |

I think we all found it hilarious. Just because I wanted to defeat JFG's idiocy didn't mean that I didn't find the exchange ridiculous; indeed, that was the exact motivation for making my end of it as ridicilous as possible (but still correct ). |

I understand very well. I too, have engaged in stupid debates on the web solely for the entertainment. There is a very politically incorrect statement (shame on me!!!) that I personally find humorous and applicable: "Winning an argument on the internet is like winning the special olympics; you may win, but you're still retarded."
(Yes, I know that the special olympics is a wonderful thing and I know two proud special olympians.) |

Okay, things just get weirder and weirder. This would be the last message I received:
quote:
Salopian has pointed out, with his/her inimitable charm, that I had leapt to the conclusion you were a man. Actually I had you confused with another user, a fellow who is also from Indiana, but nevertheless it's my fault and I apologize for the error. I am now leaving the FWFR page in your capable hands. Besides sources, my concerns have been with the inclusion of promotional and unencyclopedic material, and the over-writing. For example, I cut much of the text about Benj Clews' prerogatives for the same reason I would cut "I like to pay with pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, dollars, two-dollar coins, $5 bills, $10 bills, $20 bills, $50 bills and $100 bills" and replace it with "I like to pay cash." I hope that's helpful. John FitzGerald 19:29, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
And this would be the last posting on his own talk page, before posting "I am no longer active. The Wikipedia experiment seems to me to have failed. i could be wrong, of course.":
quote:
Thanks for pointing that out. I had Wildhartlivie confused with another user, and I apologize for my mistake. I also realized later that I had leapt to the conclusion that Drchazan was a woman. I apologize to all people whose sex I have leapt to unjustified assumptions about. Incidentally as an editor, you might consider the fact that level of imprecision and imprecision mean the same thing. And nope I don't take your information about people's sex as slagging off. Your last remark is damn pompous, though. Thanks for the laugh. John FitzGerald 19:12, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
And so it goes.

Wikipedia is kind of a hobby of mine too. Most of the Wikipedia work I do is setting the facts straight about the Arab-Israeli conflict when anti-Semites try to screw it up. I run into people a hell of a lot worse than JFG who distort facts and insult other people because of their race, religion, or nationality, but I have a pretty good track record on being able to fix the Israel articles for verifiability and neutral point of view through reliable sources (or at least coming to a compromise). Summaries of many of the arguments I had can be seen here.
Anyway, it looks like as of today, JFG has threw in the towel: quote: "I am no longer active. The Wikipedia experiment seems to me to have failed.
I could be wrong, of course. My decision was not solely due to my final, lively difference of opinion with various FWFRers. It did, however, confirm my opinion that there plenty of better ways for me to be spending my declining years doing.
It appears ChocolateLady might be wrong as well. 3rd grade hardly sounds like anybody's "declining years." |

How odd. That's pretty much the same conclusion I drew about continuing the so-called debate with him. |
