I gotta wonder WHY we're dragging this up 3 months later? It's such a dead issue that no one really cares anymore. Did you really sign up here just to try and beat a dead horse??
But since he's brought it over here, I'd just like to note that on Wikipedia, Koli removed an entry on his talk page and apparently today, Rgoodermote happened to check the page. He restored what Koli deleted and put this note:

A friend of mine gave me this URL, I had an account before but I forgot it. Anyways, I meant that I had read his posts here and see what they were doing. I only checked the account to see if it was active. I noticed deleted content and per wikipedia guidelines blank a page of content is a problem. So brought it back. The only time you are allowed to blank content of a user page is if you are going to archive it or you are asking for a deletion of the page and its history. Man I wish people would read the guidlines.

Wait has it been three months....wow....this site needs to start deleting topics. By now on my forum this would be gone....but all webmasters have different practices. Well before this starts to be an edit war..lets stop here. I never came here and I never will come back. But do me a favor...do not delete talkpages unless you plan to have them deleted or you archiving them. Because it is really annoying when it pops up and it is some one I have had an aurgument with like a month ago (happened 3 times 2 IPs, 1 user (all indefed). That was not a threat, I could care less for Koli or any other user here...hell half you guys I would love to befriend. By the way I am going to remove our conversation from Wikipedia. It is unneccassary and can be mistaken for Forum activity.

I am removing that warning and apologizing. Lets not continue, 3 months is way past dead and that horse is starting to disinigrate. I am leaving an official apology to Koli and removing that warning. As well I am removing a warning placed upon him for Personal Attacks directed to John as upon further understanding I was wrong about what I saw that day. For once I admit Twinkle let me down, anyways have a peaceful life and hope no body will hold a grudge. Rgoodermote fourum account inactive as of today.

It sounds as though it may be safe for me to visit Wikipedia again...
Not that I was discouraged from visiting before (I simply don't use it much and visit my 'talk page' very rarely indeed).
Thanks for coming here and saying your piece, Rgoodermote. Come again.
PS Have visited my Wiki talk page again (that's the third time this year already!) and accepted Rgoodermote's apology. |

Wiki is a strange place. I think the kind of person who spends a lot of time writing/editing content there is a very different kind of person to those that hang out at a place like fwfr. In a nutshell, fwfrers are here for fun and 'artistic expression', but Wikipedians are there to ensure that pages remain neutral, clinical descriptions of reality. So you could argue that fwfr is art, Wiki is science.
I created my first ever Wiki page on Saturday, and created another one on Sunday (they were both for bands whose music I listen to, but had no Wiki entries). They took quite a lot longer than I was expecting, but I was quite proud of the end result. Then last night when I got home I checked Wiki only to find that the first one had been flagged for speedy deletion! Apparently the band was not 'notable' enough to justify inclusion in an encyclopedia. At any rate, my hard work was in grave danger of being summarily executed, so at about 1am I was forced to find the relevant Wiki rules on procedure, then go hunting for justification for the band's entry. I found what I thought was justification (their signing with an independent record label that has also signed with 'notable' bands was sufficient to consider them notable) and posted this information on the relevant talk page - after putting a temporary halt on the speedy-deletion process - and within a few minutes the user who requested it's administratorial deletion had accepted that it no longer met the criteria for deletion and apologised. But man, you need to be thick skinned if you're going to contribute to Wiki, as your hard work may be quickly deleted if you've left out something important that's necessary to justify your work's existence.
I think of diehard Wikipedians as guys with white coats and glasses working in the basement of a laboratory who, with clinical emotional detachment, will tip a month's work down the sink if there is a possibility of contamination and tell the experimenter to start again. I mean this in no disrespectful way at all, as someone needs to be ruthless in such a situation. An encyclopedia is just that, an encyclopedia, and there's no room for artistic expression.
Someone has already added category links to the bottom of the two pages I made, and he has 14,000 Wiki contributions to his credit. Glad someone's doing it.
Anyway, the close-call with execution of my first Wiki page means I'll be adding more to it ASAP including links to interviews, reviews etc and mention of their record company so that nobody tries to kill it again. |

Hmm, I guess I'm like Donny & Marie - a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll, or in this case, artistic & scientific. Since the FWFR brouhaha, I've spent quite a bit of time editing on Wikipedia. I don't mind being thought of as a Wikinerd. I do a lot of reference checking, language refining and the occasional argument on talk pages about why some people insist on highlighting the sex lives in bios. The hard part is to be objective about things one feels passionate about to present a balanced article.
In college, I majored in psychology & worked as a graduate assistant as a research editor and minored in classical culture & piano - both science and art. In life, I've written - poetry and scientific papers. And now I wiki and FWFR. I'm either very balanced or very schizophrenic.
In either case, direct me to your articles, Sean, maybe I can find references or something more to add!! |

OK, here they are. The first one has changed a lot since inception, but most of the work is mine. Most of my edits have been addition of references, and additions to justify it's existence. It also had a page name change; the upper-case "A" in the band's name was lower-cased (and the album name "...beyond my grey wake" was uppercased) 'cos dem's da Wiki roolz.
The second one hasn't changed, other than some category links being added by others. My guess is a real Wikinerd will go through this one at some stage soon and demand citations everywhere, so I'll be required to finish that one too. I can see some parts that some will think require references, and someone will probably 'linkify' the album names too.

You actually did a much better job establishing the notability of How Like a Winter than the majority of other arguments I've seen on WP. The page has got potential. They both are really good starter pages for new bands and I get annoyed at editors who are too quick to mark articles for deletion and insist on immediate referencing when an article is new. They don't spend enough time editing and remind me of hall monitor kids in grade school - you know, the type that kiss up to the front office and relish tattling on their peers. |

I once had a lengthy dialogue similar to the one that Koli suffered through, with a wikinerd. The guy refused to accept the facts of an issue as truth, while nattering at me about every little wiki convention such as tildes, ad nauseum. Finally, he read the sources I offered and realized I was right. |
