It broke at Comic Con San Diego that there will be a new Spock. A younger spock. Nimoy will still play Spock, But there will also be a younger Spock in the new Star Trek movie Produced by J.J. Abrams. Young Spock will be played by Zachary Quinto

Hmm ... I wonder why his main photo shows him tugging at his ear

Oh, My, God, it is the very EVIL SYLAR!

(He's tugging his ear to better hear the blood running through your veins!)

My thoughts exactly. He is a very great actor. But can he go from very evil to very monotone?

He is a great actor? What the hell are you smoking? He is fucking atrocious in that show, Heroes. Utterly dreadful and plank-like.

Yes, he is pretty plank-like in "Heroes" but then again, Sylar is supposed to be unemotional. Question is, up to what episode have you seen so far, Ali? There's one episode with his mother that shows he really can do more than an Elijah Wood imitation. If you haven't seen that one, then I suggest you reserve judgement until after that one airs in Turkey.

As for him playing Spock, we all know that Vulcans are supposed to be devoid of emotion, so even if you still think that he's stiffer than a corpse after you see that episode, it might not be all bad.

I've seen them all, honeykins; including that episode with his mother.

Of course the character is supposed to be emotionless, but that doesn't mean the actor's performance should be dull.

There is some seriously atrocious acting in that show (and some incredibly dull story arcs, too). In both cases, I am looking at you Matt Parker/Greg Grunberg and Nicki-Jessica/Ali Larter!

Edit: Oh, the fact that Zach Quinto looks a lot like Eli Roth also does not help him in the sympathy stakes.

Do you think he's a little too handsome for poor old Spock?

Handsome? That's what you call handsome? Oh, well, no accounting for taste.

But I don't see any reason why Spock has to be particularly ugly. I don't think that Nemoy was ugly when he first started doing Spock. In fact, in the early years, I found him fairly attractive and I'm of the opinion that young Nemoy was hotter than today's Quinto.

I'd say that Nimoy was and is striking, he has a very intersting face. I suppose the fact that he rarely smiles as Spock has coloured my opinion.

On closer inspection Quinto has the long face and his eyebrows definately lend themselves to a plucking to many shapes!!

Oh yes, Nimoy is definitely a handsome man. I've got a thing for voices, y'know?

Has anyone here ever seen the one man show he did as Van Gogh? Man, I bet that was good. I read that one time he took a bust of Van Gogh along with him to a restaurant, set it at the placing opposite him and carried on a conversation with it, doing both sides.

Quinto was the perfect pick. Kudos to casting. In the right light, with the right makeup, he could BE a young Nimoy. And he can play vague dramatic distance, as he did very adroitly in HEROES. Nice work, and guess what else, which the producers have long since guessed: he also attracts some YOUNGER peeps, which this franchise sorely needs...

You think that a new Star Trek movie won't automatically get younger viewers? I'm not so sure that they don't already have a younger fan base.

They don't. It's regarded, both in the "industry" and among geeks, as an OLD franchise and concept. Which is a shame, really. Even though I have always been a Star Wars-kinda guy, I love the ethos of Star Trek.

The biggest problem with Quinto is his voice - its high and childish, and a touch on the scratchy side. Nimoy's was always deep, smooth velvety, calming, reassuring. For Quinto to really "get" Spock he'll have to work on his voice quality. If not, they'll need to find someone else young for the cast who has a sexy voice (like a young Patrick Stewart).

I was just rewatching The Simpsons - having just bought 4 of the box sets!

I love the episode where they have to restage all their family photos because they got burned. They restage the party held for the final Voyager episode. Carl becomes emotional - I thought I was over this but the pain doesn't go away!

I really liked the Voyager series too. I thought that was garnering a young audience?

What are they going to do with the Scotty character - since James Doohan has passed away?
