I just got back from benj & Lisa's second NYC confourence in as many years. We opened with a fine greasy-spoon brunch at Jackson Hole on upper Madison [a scene from HANNAH AND HER SISTERS was filmed at our very table], where Ms. Randall and I listened, awestruck, to the story of their worldwide journey.

Ms. Randall then went on her Saturday duties while I took the newlyweds on a four-hour stroll through Central Park, and down to Lincoln Center, passing locations used in THE PRODUCERS, KRAMER VS. KRAMER, A NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM, STUART LITTLE, KING KONG, MEN IN BLACK, THE DEVIL'S ADVOCATE, SIMON & GARFUNKEL: THE CENTRAL PARK CONCERT, and many more. Just about the only talk of movies was to point these spots out, and the only talk of fwfr was a comment about how friendly, entertaining and knowledgeable were all the fwiffers they'd met -- MguyX, they had special praise for you for your heroic work in squiring them around LA, and I think you deserve highest fwfr honors for unswerving service to our leader and the new Ms. Leader.

We stopped by the new Lincoln Center P.J. Clarke's, whose original Third Avenue location [THE LOST WEEKEND] had been the venue for benj's 2006 birthday celebration. All three of us decided that the joint had an inappropriate newness unbefitting the reputation of the legendary New York saloon. Yet the pints were still satisfyingly cold, so one could easily overlook the "new-car smell," and the barman took a nice shot of our trio which I've just sent to Sean for our Facebook gallery.

It was wonderful seeing these two charming people again, and fascinating to hear of their courageous round-the-world adventure, managed almost on the fly [benj bought the plane tickets less than 24 hours before they shoved off!]. My only complaint is that Ms. Randall is starting to make noises like, why don't you take me on a trip like that? The people I hang out with -- setting bad examples like that!

Come back next year, you two!

Sounds like you had just as good a time as we did.

Come back soon Benj and Lisa! We will miss you.

You might be able to find some great last minute discount fares to Jamaica about now.

Not that you could possibly know, but that's not funny to us: we happen to have visited Jamaica every year for more than 10 years now, to the same house on the northern coast. We are crossing our fingers that all our friends in Ja will be fine the next few days, and that our house will still be standing in Dec., when we plan to see it again. We were in Portugal when Katrina struck [we're from the South and have many friends down there, so K hurt especially hard] and will feel just as helpless now. So I guess Ja doesn't count on Ms. Randall's fantasy itinerary...

If it's off the US shores, it's probably on my fantasy itinerary!

It turns out that Hurricane Dean, which moved along Jamaica's south shore, did no damage to our friends across the island, nor to the house to which we will repair in Dec. One family which has become very close spent the storm in a wooden structure which remained upright too. On to Texas!
