I'm looking for examples of the classic cliche where no matter how important the hero's job is - he could hold the fate of the entire universe in his hands - the only thing his significant other seems to care about is that he never has enough time for her and the kids.
Suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks! |

True Lies comes to mind. Also, in a weird way, Superman Returns. Star Wars Episode III might fit, except for the fact that the "hero" in this case is actually evil. Oh, and The Wrath of Khan. |

I think JFK had this element. I'm sure 1776 did. |

Not sure if he can count as a hero, but that dull film about the founding of the C.I.A. |

If you expand from marriage, Stop or My Mom Will Shoot is a bit like this.
Did Heroes have a feature-length pilot? The policeman's wife is like this to start with. |

I'm not totally sure, but I do think that Unbreakable might fit your bill.

Bruce Willis in Die Hard...
Pretty sure the "fate of the entire universe" was not at stake.
How about My Super Ex-Girlfriend? |

Don't take me so literally. Die Hard could be good, except that by the time the movie started they're already separated...but you're on the right track, a spouse whining about a cop being too busy fighting crime and saving lives is the right idea. |

What about Shall We Dance? While Gere isn't really 'saving the world' he certainly is doing something else while neglecting his wife and family. For that matter, there's also Gere in Bee Season where he certainly neglects his wife and son, while paying only attention to his daughter. |
