I just bought a new Mac and I started getting into iTunes and podcasts. The ones I subscribe to now are The Skeptics' Guide to the Universe, A Fly on the Wall, and Vintage Tooncast. Does anybody have any podcasts they recommend?

I am addicted to them - these are my faves:

The Adam Carolla Show (his daily radio show in its entirety, separated by 12 segments a day)

ESPN: Pardon the Interruption and Daily Radio Podcast

NPR: Most Emailed Stories and Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me

KCRW: Martini Shot and Left, Right and Center

This American Life

Wild Chronicles (video)

And then some Chicago Sports podcasts and some Catholic podcasts (which I can only recommend if you are either a Chicago sports fan or Catholic and I don't believe either applies to GH).

The only one I use is this one here

Minnesota Mayhem

which has only been running for a month, a new one-hour show of metal is added weekly. I've picked up a lot of pointers from it. Non-metalheads need not apply.

Well I listen to some BBC podcasts. I listen to Mark Kermode's film review and this sports comedy programme called Fighting Talk.

I also heartily recommend Mark Kermode's film reviews- listening to that is one of my favourite bits of the week.

And if anyone else is that way inclined, I absolutely love The Bluegrass Preservation Society's podcast with Ewell Ferguson and Buster the three-legged Bluegrass kitty-cat (working the soundboard apparently).

Oh, shouldn't that be a tripodcast?

Oh... just remembered. There's the Ricky Gervais podcast which is occaisionally available. It's quite funny if you like hearing two grown men bait an absolute idiot for an hour and is the most downloaded podcast of all time (i.e. the last, er... 2 or 3 years) apparently.

Heartily agree about Mark Kermode - very opinionated and really quite juvenile, but bang on with his reviewing. Interestingly he has called 'The Assasination of Jes...etc' the best film of the year (and anyone who doesn't agree with him is "stupid"). May take a bit of getting used to, but well worth the effort.

And the Ricky Gervais podcasts are just genius - as Benj says, it's just two guys bating an idiot, but he's almost an idiot-savant such is the simplicity of his understanding of the world. If you like this, and your music, I'd recommend listening to Stephen Merchant's show on BBC 6 Music. SM is Rick's partner on the podcasts and all the TV shows and is very funny in his own right. They also play some rare tunes.

What does everybody think about producing a FWFR podcast? We can either discuss reviews or films or anything else for that matter. It could be interesting since FWFR is so international and the topics discussed on the fourum are often stimulating. I know I'd enjoy working on such a project. Hopefully people on iTunes would also enjoy listening to us as much as I enjoyed conversations I've had on and off the fourum and in person with you all. I'd volunteer to edit the show on Soundtrack Pro. What do you all think?

We discussed this last year or maybe longer ago and Benj was unsure about how to do this. I had a long message in that thread but basically you could talk about the top 10 films of the week and the best new reviews for those films. You could talk about the top reviews of the week or month and also recap all of the contests.

I think keeping it focussed on the reviews as a way to promote the site would be good - onlyproblem is it might further burden the MERPs and Benj with an influx of new members.

A friend of mine has a popular podcast (something like 10,000 subscribers) called "A Fly on the Wall." He just records it in his house, edits and mixes it on his iMac, and uploads it somehow. It can't be too difficult from a technical point of view. The only thing we'd need to do is decide on a format and we're halfway there.
