His wiki page picture looks like he is handcuffed and being led away.
Local politics are usually so different than national politics in that making sure the garbage gets picked up and making sure the subway runs and potholes get filled as opposed to where should we deploy our troops and how should we tax our citizens. |

True, but mayor of a city like London is an international role and there is the real risk of Boris causing offence. I genuinely think that he is not bigoted, but that he comes from a milieu where ironic comments are highly normalised, which is why he trips up elsewhere, as well as of course playing up to the buffoon image (which he will presumably stop doing now).
Yes, lack of income tax powers made me able to bear the prospect of a Tory mayor. However, there are other taxes and things like taxes which Boris will be able to change.
I'd really love to get Routemasters back, though, and to get rid of bendy buses, so that's something! |
