I've seen the Four Tops twice live. Once at Live Aid, and once as the opening act to the Temptations in the late 80's. Levi had better pipes than the pseudo-Temps put together.
By that time of their career, only one original Temptation (Otis Williams, the bass singer) was around. Meaning the only original vocal by the band was "And mama, there's some bad talk goin' round that Papa had three outside children and another wife."
But the Tops had the same original 4 members as they'd had since 1954. They were together for 35 years without a single membership change. And they still performed every show with joy and exquisite showmanship.
The Four Tops were going to be on the 747 that was blown up over Lockerbie, but we're asked to stay and perform their "Loco In Acapulco" single for a TV show.
