Probably wasted my money, but it seemed like a good idea at the moment.
Any ideas what I should do with them? I'd be happy to set them up as a group contribution site for multiple authors.
I'd get a forum on there asap and start posting your feelings on all things Obama (also slap on Google AdSense for good measure). I'm sure some folks here will have a few things to add also. Once you've a bit of lively chat going you might want to approach some of your members as regular contributers. |

I hope it is "An old hippie chick". I've recently grown an aversion to anything resembling "that one." |

For your first entry in that blog or forum or whatever, you might want to note the siginficance of Rahm Emanual's choice as Barak's Chief of Staff. Of course, only people like me would see what is amuzing in that Barak (who's name means "lightening") would offer that job to a guy named Rahm, because his name means "thunder"!
(By the way, if he accepts the position, this should make Israelis happier about this win, especially since his father served in the Irgun.)

Not wholely, no. As a rule, Republicans seem to favor Israel more than Democrats do. They see Israel's being the only "democracy" in the Middle East as something they are believe they should promote and protect and thereby are more willing to turn a blind eye when we don't completely behave ourselves. They also tend to take Israel's side when we react to aggression in kind, whereas Democrats will be less sympathetic since they feel that the aggression against Israel wouldn't exist if Israel could be less hard on the Palestinians. While there is some truth in that, many Israelis feel that if they're going to play the "who started it" game, they really should look farther back than just prior to the last incident. They'll site chapter and verse going back to 1948, or play the Holocaust and/or Bible cards to prove that Israel is justified in our actions.
On the other hand, if we look back carefully, the most progress for peace came when the USA was most critical of Israel - i.e., under the Democrats. Just as I've always said that the only way for Israel to make peace is to make sure the PM comes from a right-wing party. This is because if the left tries to make peace, it will be fought tooth and nail by the right, but if the right tries to make peace, the left will fall into line and sign on immediately. So too, do I feel that a tough stance on Israel from the USA is more motivating for us to make peace than when we're coddled and favoured. That also makes the other parties feel that they're being treated more fairly, and that makes them more willing to talk peace.
I was Democrat when I lived in the USA, and I'm almost as far left as they come in this country. I always vote on that side of the road, but I know exactly how important it is for the opposition to be no less strong. I truly believe that a lopsided government is generally not the way to make progress. Of course, that only applies to the multi-party Parlimentary Democracy we have here, and that's not how it works in the USA with the two-party system. Mind you, that's probably the biggest flaw of American government as it is today - only two parties to choose from.

Wonderful news. I'm looking forward to Obama becoming one of the greats. There's not been one in my lifetime so I'm fascinated by how his term(s) will play out.
I see that our PM is trying to be first in the line to be seen palling about with 'the man'. If you want to see a complete charisma contrast, there's one to watch.
I wonder what this means for our 'special relationship'. Are we still your BFF or are there other suitors now? |

I agree 100%. Actually, a well-known philosopher from your part of the world saw the folly in the "he started it so I'll hit him back" approach a couple of thousand years ago. It's a shame that so many people (including many who claim to follow his teachings) have yet to learn this. |

i am overwhelmed with emotion about the election of our next president. as some of you know, i work in the media and my job is to be neutral observer. but once i saw on Tuesday night that Obama had won Pennsylvania and Ohio and had more than 200 electoral votes, i couldn't stop grinning, and almost cried a couple of times in my office. and forget about trying to sing Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come," or listening to MLK's i've-been-to-the-mountaintop speech. i also have serious concerns for the president-elect. his will be the most scrutinized presidency ever. and i hate to think about it but i'm sure there are others out there who would like to see this presidency end ... ummm ... prematurely. for now i'm gonna keep smiling and play Sam Cooke only when i'm alone.
