Obama says ready to talk to Iran
DUBAI (Reuters) President Barack Obama said that America was prepared to extend a hand of peace to Iran if it "unclenched its fist" and that the time was ripe for Israel and the Palestinians to resume peace negotiations.
During the eight-year administration of former President George W. Bush, U.S. relations with many Arab and Muslim nations were damaged by the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq and Bush's initial reluctance to push for Israeli-Palestinian peace.
"It is impossible for us to think only in terms of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and not think in terms of what's happening with Syria or Iran or Lebanon or Afghanistan and Pakistan," he told the Dubai-based satellite channel Al Arabiya.
"It is important for us to be willing to talk to Iran, to express very clearly where our differences are, but (also) where there are potential avenues for progress," Obama said.
Wow: I think it's real -- maybe I'm not dreaming! |

And not forgetting he's got the help of ber-pacifist and all-round good guy, our very own Middle East Envoy, Tony 'Sincere' Blair. Hahahaha, good luck with that lying sack of shit sticking his head in where it's not wanted. If I can remind everyone of how he thought he might be judged on his decision to invade Iraq. No, Tony, we meant in the Hague on a war crimes charge, but seeing as you brought God up, let's take a look at one of the central tenets, the ten commandments...

Not so fast, my friend.
Obama saying he wants to de-arm Hamas and make sure they can't re-arm - a good thing.
George Mitchell... might be good - not totally sure yet, but certainly not bad.
Does it look like Obama is trying to go in the right direction? Yes.
But nothing, and I repeat, nothing is real until it actually happens. This is NOT a region of the world that needs a couple of band-aids to fix it up. This is major surgery type of diplomacy, and its going to take a LONG time and lots of HARD work to even get negotiations on track for more than an hour or two. Not to mention implimenting anything that might come out of those negotiations.
But that he's starting now - within a week of his taking office - does send a message that he's serious about trying to do something to fix this region up. And that can't be a bad thing.
(And BB - No offence but, I don't think that Mr. Blair was even invited.) |

So true.
It is a good start. I fully support the effort. For the record: I am a Muslim, and I am a friend of Israel. I hope that long-unjustified and lingering Arab animosity gives way to realization, recognition, acceptance, accord and peace. Shalom! |
