This is my first ever post on my first ever computer. How very exciting.

Of course I came here first.

When I came back into the Fourum overview just now, the latest post in this section was still displayed as being ChocolateLady. Is this something to do with my settings? I really have no clue about this sort of thing.

Click refresh page - your settings are probably only changing the page when you re-boot.

Well done Sal, I bought my first ever computer just over a year ago, a little note pad called Asus (Eee PC series) an open source software type of arrangement and i still marvel at it's neatness (about the size of a standard rectangular placemat) and handiness when I open it every morning.

Yep, I refreshed and my name popped up, but I just meant that on other computers I've used whenever I came back into the Fourum overview (even from elsewhere in the Fourum, whereas in this case it was from another website altogether) it has automatically been up to date. Are there settings about how often/when it checks for updates to each site? (Facebook will not work very well if it is not all the time!)

It'll be your browser settings. It's probably set to not update rather than update automatically. It'll be under Tools / Options somewhere (depending on your browser).

When you go to the active topics part of the Fourum http://www.fwfr.com/fourum/active.asp you can choose how often you want it to reload - I have mine set to update every 5 minutes.

I've already congratulated you about the computer on Facebook so I'll be muted in my enthusiasm here.

Thanks both. Yes, the active topics link showed it not to be updating automatically. I couldn't find it readily in the browser settings so I'll see whether the site-specific thing does the trick.

So I'm not the only one late to the game then?

This one's nothing fancy, but I got the best low-end one that friends could find and it seems good so far. It's just as well as my 'phone stopped working and probably won't come back before I return to Poland on Friday, so it's good to have it for communication.
