As I mentioned in the latest round of FYCTH, I'm going on vacation on Friday. My husband and I will be going first to visit his sister in Arnheim and then on December 3 will be landing in London in the afternoon. I've already contacted Whippersnapper and that evening is good for him, so if anyone else in London or the surrounding areas would like to join us, that would be wonderful. We're staying at the Express by Holiday Inn in Stanford so any suggestions as to where we could meet would be appreciated. |

Yes, some of her spelling was a little unconventional, but there was no ambiguity and I just put it down to your saying you are a bit dyslexic (so maybe she is too) and the concept of spelling being rather different in Hebrew and English. I didn't notice anything wrong grammatically or in any other way.
Just get lots of non-English non-Hebrew films with English subtitles.  |

Oh, she can read anything and understand it all - and she's in the "English for English Speakers" class at school. We've never talked "down" to her and so I think she's got a very good English vocabulary, but she makes spelling and grammar mistakes in her writing. If she would be less lazy and read more books in English I'm sure she'd improve very quickly. But I can hardly get her to read any books at all, even in Hebrew, so...

Yes, she said, but as I also told her, her English was fine. Actually, I was the more embarrassed, as I had just assumed that she was totally comfortable in English, and so had not made any allowances in my wording. (I obviously realised that Hebrew would be her first language, but because of your being an English speaker I didn't think about it being a barrier.) Anyway, she thankfully managed to understand me and I was grateful for the trouble she went to. |

This was a huge oversite and now we'll just have to meet again because, well, the big bosses are upset that they can't keep track of you until they can get that picture of you on their files.

I wrote a long message last night and my battery died just before posting it!
I did spell their full names, but I didn't specifically ask the receptionist to look under their first names, unfortunately. I was about ten minutes' walk away when Koli met them.
ChocolateGirl was a big help from Israel, but by that stage there then wasn't time to meet up.
However, C.L. did very kindly ring me twice from Frankfurt. Sadly I missed both calls as my 'phone was on the sofa and I keep it on silent all the time because of the cinema. But the thought was appreciated and at least now my imagined pronunciation of Davida has been corrected.

I met up with Mr & Mrs Chockie yesterday. (Incidentally, the hotel problem was that they'd got the room in Mr Chockie's first name; that's why when Sal and I rang they denied all knowledge of them.)
We met up in Covent Garden and went for a coffee and beer (not always a good combination but it seemed to work on this occasion), in a nearby cafe. We split up on the Piccadily Line, when the Chockies changed train at Holborn and I carried on to Euston. Tonight they're flying home via Frankfurt.
There was precious little gossip about those mentioned in this thread, or other FWFRers, but I had a thoroughly enjoyable chat with Davida and Alon about everything from opera to international politics.
Unfortunately we were all incommunicado because we were away from our PCs for several days, and so were unaware of Benj's and Sal's efforts to fix something up at the last minute.
If I were smart I'd write something like "great to meet you both; have a good flight home", in Hebrew, but I think we all know that even with the aid of Google Translate it would come out as "the badger has more luck than the sheep; where was the skating stand-up dude?" |

Well, sorry to hear you weren't able to solve the problem, which, incidentally, has nothing to do with the staff's honesty or competence.
