See all of the IMDb Top 250.
I've seen 163 of them (so 87 to go). Some of them I'll probably never be able to find though.
I've seen all of the Top 50, and 89 of the Top 100. |

Is the because you think it should be No. 7? Or No. 12,756? I'd rate it as the best of the Hollywood animation flicks I've seen, but not in the same league as most of Studio Ghibli's stuff. |

Certainly wasn't expecting it to be higher. Just surprised that it was as high as it was. Upon reflection, since it is #5 animation moneymaker, and since this list is user-vote driven, it makes sense.
It just rankles a pseud like me to see it several places ahead of 8 1/2 which I put in my personal top ten list. |

I see an IMDb score as not a reflection of absolute quality, but as a reflection of satisfaction level among those who've seen it and scored it. In the case of The Incredibles, everyone who saw it knew what they were going to get, they liked it as the animation was good and it was funny and entertaining, and that satisfaction is reflected in the score. Conversely, many who saw Lost in Translation because of it's Oscar or because Bill Murray and/or Scarlett Johansson were in it, and then "didn't get the movie" were less than satisfied, hence it isn't even in the Top 250 even though it's in my "Best 10 movies ever" list. So I gave up thinking about relative positions of movies in IMDb lists.
Even within 'genres', the relative positions don't mean a lot. E.g., in the Top 50 Animation list, comedies like The Incredibles are up against violent action flicks like Ninja Scroll and serious dramas like Grave of the Fireflies, none of which in my view are comparable.
I find IMDb scores are a good indicator of a movie's watchability, and have five classes that I use. I find they work whatever the genre:-
1-5 - forget it, it's garbage 5-6 - better than staring at the wall... or perhaps not 6-7 - should be decent enough, perhaps very good 7-8 - should be very good, perhaps excellent 8-9+ - should be excellent.
I don't often find a movie that IMO is outside it's class. |

Seen 94 of the top 100 (but missing 4 in the top 30 )
And 208 209 211 of the 250.
Several are newer and I haven't had a chance yet (Children of Men, Pan's Labyrinth, The Prestige, Departed, United 93). Several more I have on tape and can't get myself to sit and watch (Harvey, The Seventh Seal, Best Years of Our Lives) One of my big weaknesses is in the Spaghetti Western bowl. Need to get cooking on them! |

Not very twisty, Sal, but without these most of the others probably wouldn't have been made, superb as some of them are. I've tried not to duplicate anything above.

classic horror: Paul Wegener's The Golem F.W. Murnau's Nosferatu, the Vampire
classic epic: Sergei Eisenstein's Ivan the Terrible, I & II
classic war: Abel Gance's J'Accuse [I Accuse] Jean Renoir's La Grande Illusion [The Great Illusion] Jean-Luc Godard's Les Carabiniers [the riflemen] Lewis Milestone's All Quiet on the Western Front
classic biopic: Abel Gance's Napoleon
classic documentary: Nanu of the North Pare Lorentz The River [tribute to the Mississippi] Frederick Wiseman's Primate Titicut Follies
music-related D.A. Pennebaker's Don't Look Back [about Bob Dylan] Monterey Pop Martin Scorsese's No Direction Home: Bob Dylan
classic sci-fi journey to the unknown: Journey to the Center of the Earth
classic westerns: Stagecoach Bad Day at Black Rock Delmer Daves's Broken Arrow starring James Stewart
classic alien encounter: Robert Wise's The Day the Earth Stood Still The Thing aka The Thing from Another World
classic BIG creatures: Them!
from the Nouvelle Vague: Essential Truffaut: Les Quatre cents coups [The Four Hundred Blows] Shoot the Pianist Jules et Jim Day For Night
Essential Godard: A Bout de Souffle [Breathless] Vivre Sa Vie [Her Life to Live] Le Mepris [Contempt] Alphaville aka Alphaville, a Strange Case of Lemmy Caution Pierrot le fou

I hope LemmyCaution forgives me, but I thought this was appropriate for this discussion:
GHcool's Top Five Least Favorite Films on the IMDb Top 250 1. Brazil at #238 ("1985." - Whippersnapper) 2. 8 1/2 at #148. 3. The Usual Suspects at an unbelievably high #17 (right above City of God ... "Ring-a-ring-a-soze." - Paul Bennison)! 4. Mulholland Drive at #244 ("Pair o' dykes- lost." - Fresno). 5. Fight Club at #32 ... right above American Beauty! ("Quit hitting yourself!" - Leila) |

They make me smile and Tracy is marvelous in them, and like many of the same era are truly Classic Comedies. Anyway, one should see the "real thing" to offset those horrid remakes by Steve Martin! So I would add a few of the first, original Pink Panther movies, too. For that matter, the originals of Cheaper by the Dozen and Your's Mine and Ours would be good fun (but not essential).
I forgot Pat & Mike on my list and I see someone else mentioned (or was it on the IMDb list) Arsenic and Old Lace which are also classics. I know there are many more.
