Last night, we in America watched the series finale. I found the second six, where Andy actually had a sitcom, to be even funnier than the first. How did my British friends feel?

Sorry I can't speak for our cross-the-pond friends, but I have this almost elevated into Curb Your Enthusiasm territory - its essentially like a British version of the the Larry David show - the biggest problem I have is the season is so short!!

The operation game scene was highly reminiscent of a Seinfeld or Curb moment - makes you laugh while feeling a little ashamed.

I agree the element of him having celebrity with no respect whatsoever made the show better this year.

Ricky Gervais is a brilliant writer and so aware of when to STOP. The Office characters developed through two seasons and specials until there was nowhere sensible to go.

Instead of stopping on the one joke of being an extra, he gets some success. I don't know whether he plans to do a third, but I wouldn't mind seeing Andy Millman becoming a huge superstar and taking out his shit treatment on everyone as a prima donna just because he CAN!

Yup, it's great. After The Office, it at first seemed a bit hit and miss, but I think one just needed to tune into it. Stephen Merchant is brilliant as the agent and, as has been mentioned here before, Shaun Williamson as himself/Barry is perfect in his self-satire.

I didn't think this series was quite as funny as the first- a lot more poignant if anything, although the Ian McKellen episode almost equalled the first series' Patrick Stewart one.

As far as I've heard, that's it. Apparently, Ricky Gervais is winding down his comedy output in favour of writing drama- no plans for another series of Extras, no more stand-up after the current tour and not even any sign of a return of the Podcasts

However, Sir Ian's acting lesson to Andy was the funniest thing in the whole series.
