I've never seen so many pissed off old people before.
There was a meeting tonight that brought back together former members of a saddle club that my folks and I belonged to when I was a kid.
A married couple who live near the old club grounds wanted to present a proposal that the club reactivate for the purpose of giving them the grounds. They would like to create a music camp on the property.
The grounds have been neglected for a long time and the grounds and the clubhouse need lots of work.
Even so, the old folks (my parents included, although they did not attend) were clearly doubtful about the feasibility of the proposal.
I enjoyed, very much, seeing these geratrics become so passionate, and use their knowledge from life and work experiences to ask pertinent questions and to point out potential pitfalls.
Amongst the younger (in our 40's/50's) folks were rural types and farmers, and I was proud of them as well. These hayseeds were a hard crowd to sell to.
The university couple who offered the proposal seem like very nice folks and I am glad to have met them. I kind of feel sorry for them, on account of the hornets' nest they stirred up. Where they erred was in not merely trying to reactivate the saddle club for its own sake. I can understand how it must fret them to see the grounds and the clubhouse just go to ruins, unused.
The saddle club decided to have another meeting at a warmer, handicapped accessible location. They will decide what to do then. |
