This year, in my capacity as a Webby Judge, I nominated two wonderful websites as potential Webby winners. The first was our beloved FWFR. Sadly, it did not make the final cut
However - remember when Sean alerted us all to the phenomenal work of young Flash whizzkid Alan Becker? Well, I nominated his work as well. In our subsequent eMailings he confirmed he was only 18 and was very excited to have been nominated for the Webby. I am delighted to report that he has made the final short-list in the Online Film and Video/ Animation category! I also alerted my pals who run Aardman about Alan, but some of them had already spotted him on the atomfilm site.
Winners will be announced on 1 May. I'll let you know what happens.
THANKS, SEAN!

Just for the record... it's not that FWFR didn't make the final cut, it was never put up for the final cut in the first place. Yes, BB kindly nominated it, but the entry fee was still required. I simply didn't see the point in paying $200 to enter a site that, quantity of content aside, hasn't changed any noticeable amount since we entered last year (and made the final selection). I'd much rather we don't overexpose the site to the Webbys year after year, instead coming back in (hopefully) better and fresher force when serious improvements have happened.
This isn't to say I'm not flattered BB went above and beyond to nominate us however |

Excellent. Glad to see he's getting the deserved exposure for the obviously hard work he put in.
P.S. When I saw the thread title I thought that this was going to have something to do with penguins. |

| Wow. I had never seen that before. I work in animation so I can say with some confidence that if he keeps it up, he's got a great future ahead of him. I like how he goes the extra mile and gives his characters weight and does little touches of extra "acting" that give the characters a more lifelike quality while still maintaining that light cartoony feel. |

especially when you're in your thirties and look back with bitter memories of age twelve when i thought, why do i want to spend all my time inside putting commas and semi-colons between numbers and letters.
Good on him, I'd forgotten how good that was. |

Frankly, I'm not particularly impressed with a "The Best Website That Paid Us Money!" Award, anyway.
But if they ever decide to make it a real "Best of the Web" contest, let me know. |
