This shocks and depresses me. Mickey Mouse has occasionally been criticized as being a tool of American hegemony, but has this popular image ever been used to incite hatred or intolerance before this clone? |

If this show is cancelled another one will come in its place that will be equally militant. They can put on television whatever they want, and I truly doubt that anyone can stop them. Of course, they might want to instruct the guy in the mouse suit that Sharon isn't dead, he's just in a coma - that bit made me laugh.
The only thing that anyone can get them for is the possible copyright infringement on using a character that is too similar looking to the famous Mickey Mouse.
(However, if Walt Disney was still alive today, I'm sure he would have been thrilled to endorse that show with his character.) |

I believe the clip is an excerpt from the little-seen early Mickey Mouse cartoon "Steamboat Ali"

How Mel Gibson got into that mouse suit I'll never know.

That's not entirely true, the rest of the world (especially Europe) could make a big difference if they followed the United States' lead and stopped allowing money to flow through their banks, from rogue governments directly into Hamas' coffers. Someone's paying money to produce that television show.
But as long as the money's there, you're absolutely right that there's always going to be stuff like that show. That's because the Palestinians are a people that have defined themselves by their "struggle." It's their past, it's their present, and it's all they see for their future. That's why their "culture" (if you can call that television show that) is so wrapped up in violence: ultimately, violence is all they have. It sounds cruel, but I think it's sadly true that they really don't want peace because they wouldn't know what to do with themselves if they had it. Little Palestinian boys and girls dream about killing Jews (and then Christians, but Jews first) when they grow up, they don't dream about being teachers or doctors or firemen or professional athletes, because those aren't the values their parents raise them with. I believe that show is probably perfectly in line with what a typical Palestinian parent wants their child to learn. |

This isn't the first Arabic children's show to advocate genocide and/or distruction of Israel and the United States. Its just the first with Mickey Mouse.
http://www.memritv.org/Search.asp?ACT=S5&P1=165
The above link has 2 whole pages of clips of TV shows that incite children to violence, many of which I consider much worse than the Mickey Mouse clip. #924, the one featuring the adorable girl calling Jews "apes and pigs," has been featured on several news shows and documentaries on the rise of anti-Semitism.
And for a humerous take on this phenomenon, click here and scroll down to "Martyrdom Mouse." |

Amazingly, that little girl's words (God called Jews apes and pigs, it says so in the Koran) should be considered the ultimate blasphamy...good Muslims don't rewrite the Koran. |

The little girl may have misquoted the Koran, but more out of ignorance than out of blasphamy. The Koran actually does say that Allah punishes athiests by turning them into apes and pigs (Sura 5:60). The next few verses are specific criticisms of devout Jews, but it doesn't appear to me that they are condemned to live as apes and pigs. |

| The Koran says Allah will turn infidels into apes and pigs, but the Koran also makes clear distinctions between "People of the Book" and true infidels. To state that the Koran says Jews are infidels and deserve infidels' fates is patently false. I'm sure someone could come up with a bogus argument of "interpretation," such as "well, what that really means is..." but to state "that's what the book says," is simply a lie. And since the Koran - like an "holy scripture" - is considered to be the Word of God, to rewrite it is an act of blasphemy. |

I've got news for you. The cost of Mickey Mouse costumes plus the appearance fees of 12yr old presenters is not especially prohibitive.

You are correct. I'm not an expert on Islam, but I have been led to think that devout Jews and other non-Muslim monotheists are more tolerable in traditional interpretations of the Koran than athiests, idol worshipers, etc. |

That's perfectly rational. Someone who has read/heard about Abrahamic monotheism and rejected it in it's entirety as a huge pile of steaming... well you know... is a much greater threat to a believer's belief structure than someone who subscribes to the basic tenets of it. You should have seen the look on the faces of my Muslim employees in Guinea (who had assumed I was a Christian) when I told them I was an atheist. They looked like this... I looked like this... although in their eyes I probably looked like this... |

| Sura 5:69 seems to illustrate my point, although it's scathing of certain individuals within the community. |
