Glover cuddling up to Hugo Chavez...motimation...funding for Toussaint film received from Venezeula. I don't get it. Is Glover really that (1) naive; (2) desperate (3) narcissistic?

This might give a bit more insight.

My guess is that if Glover is Exec Prod - which he sometimes is - he can divert some profits into the putative film school and provide more opportunities for indigenous Venezualian filmmakers. He seems genuine enough, whether or not you agree with his politics.

Only the Venezualian filmmakers that Chavez approves of, of course. Aside from seizing privately owned oil reserves (of course, he never seizes them until AFTER the oil companies have invested millions tapping into those reserves), right now the biggest concern of his government is shutting down all media outlets that might provide a voice to the political opposition, and I suspect he'll continue to do that until he has himself installed as dictator for life (although he's smart enough never to call himself that), at which point the opposition won't really matter anymore.

Hugo Chavez is a very bad man, and the saddest thing of all is that he's hurting people supposedly in the name of the poor.
