Thefoxboy's last comment on the Lost thread made me think about this. My son bought me the first three seasons of Coupling last year for my birthday (and says he'll get me the fourth season for this birthday). I wouldn't have bought it for myself, but I like having it. I can watch that show over and over and still laugh so hard I cry.
If I try to think of other shows I'd like on DVD, I get a bit stumpped. Probably the only show I miss seeing is "M*A*S*H", and I wouldn't mind owning DVDs of it, but there were SO many seasons. Perhaps "Family Ties" would be nice - I knew back then that Michael J. Fox was a great comedic actor. I'd probably want to have all of "Gilmore Girls" only because every time I watch a re-run I get jokes I missed the first times around. I might want "Studio 60" on DVD when it comes out. But as for other shows from the 60s and 70s, I'm drawing a blank.
What TV shows do you have or want to buy on DVD?
(On second thought, I'm opening this up to not just comedy shows. I might want "West Wing" some day - when it goes off re-runs.)

I don't have any, but I'd guess that one day I'll buy the four Blackadder series. |

Blackadder would be top of my list too. Then Father Ted, The Office, Family Guy and American Dad. A.C.'s accolade has also piqued my interest in Arrested Development, which I'd never heard of before, so I'll at least add that to my Love Film list.
Edit: The Love Film scores are so high for Arrested Development! I know that people probably will not be watching it casually, especially the second and third series, but still. |

I have ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT on DVD. It truly is one of the best comedies in a long while. Ron Howard's deadpan narration adds another level to each episode. If you haven't already, you should also try out the American OFFICE. It found its voice midway through the first season and has been exemplary ever since. |

Looking forward to it then.

O.K., will give it a go. I saw the first or second episode and it was better than I expected though for me still weaker than the original. Am prepared to give it the benefit of the doubt.
Talking of narration, I forgot to add Peep Show to my list. |

Have: Gilligan's Island, Fawlty Towers, Simpsons seasons 1 to 8, Planet of the Apes. Want: Get Smart*, Twilight Zone(Original B&W), Hogan's Heroes, Seinfeld
* I actually bought Get Smart on Ebay thinking it was the real deal, once it arrived in the mail from USA, they were copies. I managed to get 100% refund plus shipping back plus a little extra on top, upfront, then I posted them back.

I have Fawlty Towers, Blackadders 1, 2 and 3, but not 4, the first season of MacGuyver (don't ask...) I want now have The Young Ones.
I still want.... The Sopranos, Father Ted, the first 4 or 5 seasons of the West Wing (before it lost its way), Band of Brothers, The Closer....ah, f**k it, there are too many to mention and never enough time to watch them all...
Now that Heroes has jumped the shark I might want to watch season one all over again to remind myself how good it used to be.

I previously thought this thread was just about comedies, for some reason. Ones I do have are Six Feet Under (by far the most important - I wouldn't be prepared to lend that to anyone), Pride and Prejudice, Porterhouse Blue, The Lost Prince, some of The Dukes of Hazzard and Brass Eye (that is comedy, of course).
There are loads that I would like: Nip/Tuck, The Line of Beauty, the Up series, Angel, Lost,... |

Heheeeeeeee, I love it. Gilligan's Island!!! I don't much want anything I see on late night TV. I can only think of a couple I'd want to have and they are both dramas. House and Monk. I love those shows. (I'm loving a lot today, how odd.) I used to watch the Blackadder series on PBS, loved them too. |

I'm in the process of buying up the Seinfelds. I'd like to own MASH but it's so expensive and I wonder if I'd actually watch it.
I would have bought these but I rented them instead: Deadwood Curb Your Enthusiasm The Ben Stiller Show
I rented the first season of Arrested Development but I wasn't inspired enough to continue.
The Wire and Entourage sound promising - will have to rent 'em. Oh, and Mr. Show.... and probably the office.
Think I'd like to have Reno 911 and The Larry Sanders Show. |

Its weird, for me I am not a big fan of TV shows on DVD - I have Seinfeld and I almost never watch it, yet if I am remote surfing and see a rerun on I'll almost always give it a watch.
Especially for dramas - once I've seen the episode I don't want to watch it twice.
MOvies I'm the opposite - I own a lot of DVDs, comedies and dramas and even watch th ebig twist movies over and over again. |

Wow, all three Law & Order. That would be a lot of DVDs!! The original series began in 1990 and that's 393 episodes. Special Victim's Unit started in 1999 and that's 183 episodes. Criminal Intent started in 2001 and that's 133 episodes. That's something like 709 hours of Law & Order. If you watched it 3 hours a day, 5 days a week, it would take almost 11 months to see. The announcer on all three series is named Steven Zirnkilton and has done at least 90% of all the four series (includes Trial by Jury). He finally has a full credit in the cast list.
So do you prefer D'Onofrio or Chris Noth? I think that tells a lot about someone, depending on which one is preferred. |

I note that many people doted on this series. I never watched regularly, but I did tune in to the last couple of episodes [similar to my SOPRANOS experience], and that very last one brought a tear to my eye, even though I had faint idea of the relationships. Judging from that quick look, the show must have just been superb.
EDIT: foxy, I used to own the entire TwiZ series on VHS, assiduously bought a month at a time. Then the definitive DVD editions finally came out, and I gave the VHS copies away! That was the all-time best series on television, ever.
Sorry to lead you to the Amazon US portal, but I want to warn you AGAINST a few stray episodes that have been released on DVD piecemeal. The Definitive Edition includes spanking clean transfers, interviews and commentaries, everything. Accept no substitutes! |
