Even the English should be happy we stood up and said that's way too much for a cup of tea. After all Britney Spears, Tom Green er I mean Pauly Shore, Ru Paul - the list goes on of our contributions to the arts not to mention Mircosoft, Exxon, and Enron - stalwarts of fair commerce. And who could forget our contribution to political though with that guy from Bedtime for bonzo, the terminator and Jesse "the Body" Ventura. And we also invented the Twinkee - imagine if we were still being strapped with all those taxes on cream filling.

Tom Green is a Canadian, so don't pin that on us.

America's proudest contribution to the world is Papa John's pizza. That's some good stuff right there.

The 'invention' of the twinkee may turn out to be a prescient act that saves humanity. In the post-apocalyptic world the only thing that won't rot or go off is this humble sugary roll of crap, and may be the only thing that can sustain the few human survivors until we can start farming rats.

Thank you America!

Although my little island will probably be wasted with just 30 of the 4000 or so warheads that explode around the world.

Doh - you're right on Tom Green - was thinking of the most vile and his name popped in my brain - fixed above.

As for Papa John's as a Chicagoan that name offends me.

Actually, a package of Twinkies has a shelf life of only a few months. It's true.

Too true. Even as an ex-Chicagoan, that offends me!

Yeah, I'm glad the United States declared independence. It would have sucked to be a colony of Britain for all these years!

My husband and I had a cookout at the farm on the third. Good thing we didn't wait for the fourth, because it rained most of that day here. We invited friends, neighbors, and family. It was lots of fun. The next door neighbors brought very nice fireworks. The horses got all excited about the fireworks for about the first fifteen minutes until they got bored with running back and forth. The corgi dog at the farm was fed so much by guests that he wasn't hungry for two days afterward. The kittens fared well too.
