Someone seems to have really ruined the FWFR page on wiki. It's been chopped to pieces, with huge amounts of information on the voting and submission process - not to mention accolades - completely deleted.

And the worst thing of all is that whomever decided that information had to be removed didn't even bother to proofread what they left behind. It looks like it was written by a third grader.

The last time I checked it (last year), it looked pretty good. I'm not sure who decided they needed to make serious changes to it, but as a general rule you should be adding MORE information to encyclopedias, not LESS.

Looks like John Fitzgerald did some significant pruning and editing in June. Not sure who that is, but looks like a Torontonian?

I don't think I've looked at the fwfr Wiki entry since it was first established.

I just followed Sean's link and it looked okay to me - though I probably haven't visited since it first appeared either. Has someone repaired it?

Click on the "history" tab up top and it lists changes made:-

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Four_Word_Film_Review&action=history

E.g., here's what it looked like last September (25 edits ago) compared with now:-

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Four_Word_Film_Review&diff=143172151&oldid=73924877

You can also click on (last) on the history page to see the change made in each edit, when they changed it, and who changed it.

Oh yeah, you can also click on (undo), but I don't need to tell you what that does.

Thanks. I've just visited John Fitzgerald's 'talk page' on Wikipedia, and asked why he made the changes (and whether he's a FWFRer). More news when I have it.

Update: here is the message that John Fitzgerald put on my 'talk page' on Wikipedia. He appears to be an ill-mannered nerd.

I have answered your questions about Four Word Film Review on my talk page. Briefly, I took out puffery, corrected style, and wikified. If these other people think I took out more than I should have, then they could, like, put the stuff they consider valuable back in. It would have helped me considerably if you had put four tildes at the end of your post on my talk page, by the way. John FitzGerald 16:28, 21 July 2007 (UTC) (please note the spelling of my last name)

I'd like to thank Wildhartlivie for responding (on Wikipedia) to the gentleman's reply. I did try to post my observation about him but received a message from Wilipedia to the effect that criticism of editors is not permitted.

I just fixed the link to my review from the one on "Ciao!" to the one on "DooYoo". The reviews are identical, but I'm not active on "Ciao!" anymore and would prefer people click around my "DooYoo" pages if they liked my FWFR review there.

(I'm tempted to put one of my own reviews in the examples list, but I won't.)

GHcool set it up with 5 random sample reviews by using the What Film bubble. So it looks like others have added some reviews.

I tweaked a couple things on there. It looks like John Fitzgerald doesn't like the references to noncentz and finds a lot of it "puffery."

I just took a look at the page. It seems pretty good, but I suspect some self-promotion going on in the "Examples of reviews" section. If nobody minds, I'm going to wipe that section clean and pick 12 completely random reviews using the What Film bubble.

That doesn't sound like anyone we know from FWFR!

I just checked the page, and the "random" reviews are now all GHCool's!

Here are his comments on his talk page...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:John_FitzGerald#Four_Word_Film_Review

He does sound like a less-than-pleasant chap. Although in his defense, I'm aware that regular Wiki editors do get somewhat annoyed with requests to explain their edits. After all, there's not much to say other than "Because I thought the page was better off the way I did it" and if someone disagrees they can undo the edit, or re-write it their way.

I have no idea why he'd do major editing on a page about a site that he doesn't use though.

There is an argument for keeping a page lean and efficient though, like four-word-film-reviews. I tend to switch off when I see a big page of waffle. Having said that, there's room for waffle if the page is structured with appropriate headings such that someone can find the bits they want and skip the rest.

He was quite rude, to say the least. Besides answering on the edited page, he also addressed it on Koli's page and his own page. He was a wanker in some of his answers, so much so I felt compelled to answer him.

No, that's a WikiNerd. Please spell his description properly!

I believe the prefix Fitz means "bastard" doesn't it?

How appropriate!
