More and more British companies have been removing their advertising from FaceBook as a protest to the site's giving ad space to the neo-Nazi British National Party.
This is also prompting individuals to remove their own entries.
Obviously there's a conflict of freedom of the press and taking a moral stand. I'm glad I decided not to join FB or any similar site. I don't actually believe in censorship, but I'm wondering if I'd agree to share a platform with the BNP if I weren't able directly to challenge their views.
A dilemma.

I've seen neo-Nazi, Holocaust denial, and other offensive groups on facebook before, but there's a thing you can click on called "Report this group" and if the Facebook administrators agree with you that the site violates Facebook's standards, they will delete it. The standards include racial/religious bigotry, a libelous personal attack against a individual (such as a group called "I hate ex-boyfriend John Smith" with pictures and testimonies about how much of a jerk he is), and other similar unethical groups. |

As I say, I'm not a member of the site. And the BNP is a legal political party here in the UK. Facebook takes their paid advertisements, so I'm not sure how eager they're going to be to give back the money. Unless, of course, there's a popular movement putting pressure on the site administrators.
Gosh -- was that incitement?

| There are so many advertisers pulling out of Facebook that the administrators must be under immense pressure to ditch the BNP. But I suspect they'll end up with a compromise, whereby the big-bucks advertisers come back on condition that they have control over the pages on which their ads appear. I get the impression that they don't worry about the BNP being on the site; their real concern is that currently their ads can appear on the same page, with the result that they can be tainted by the association with small-minded bigotry. In the end it has more to do with commerce than ethics. |

That sounds suspiciously like a movie at the same video rental store as Eskimo Gang Bang and Nude Bondage Tea Party. |

Actually the "I hate Sean and so does the rest of the world" group actually exists, and foxy is a paid up member. Here's the link to it:-

Perhaps it's time to set up a "I hate foxy" group.
And yep, penguins don't like foxes at all, we prefer raw fish. |
