And strangely enough, a banana is about the same shape and size as a.... errmmmm... you know what. Does that mean we're all supposed to be wankers? Or just me?

He is serious. I guess his point is that nature seems carefully planned by a Rovian architect (sorry, God) to go together, but perhaps photo-synthesis or some other symbiotic relationship to make his point.

But this sounds like a pretty simplified version of intelligent design.

The banana, indeed, is the result of intelligent design: specifically, it was intelligently designed by generations upon generations of banana farmers who used selective breeding to provide us with the banana in its current form. Wild bananas were much different.

Even taking it on its own terms, what does that say about the pineapple?
