I think we need a new Fourum around here dedicated to TV. Since we like to talk about TV shows alot...but anyways....
A new show debuted here in the States on Monday on NBC. It seems NBC is going back to its roots and getting shows that were really popular. NBC once had 'Quantum Leap' and after 10 seasons ended it. It seems The TV viewing public are still interested in Time Travel as am I. Journeyman is another time travel show. IT's not 'Quantum Leap' or 'Doctor Who' or any other kind of Time Travel show. I watched it and I loved it.
Sure he goes through time to help people. But he keeps time traveling until he has helped. He doesnt just stay in one 'time journey'.
Weird thing is, he doesnt know how he time travels and neither do we. He time travels in his own body. He also blacks out and travels at different times even if he is driving a car. This is a great show but there are some flaws.
The characters in the show are actually calling his time travels, 'LEAPS'. Which is totally wrong. You cant copy one time travel word from another time travel show.
I won't go on further about the show if you havent seen it yet or even got it in your own country. I will let you watch and decide for yourself. Then maybe we can discuss it. If you love Time Travel...this show is for you!!!! |

Kolo's favorite show was "Quantum Leap," and he was very upset when it was cancelled. Of course he watched "Journeyman" as did I last week. I was explaining to him that, to me, it is more like a book that I read, "The Time Traveler's Wife" than "Quantum Leap," but that is just my opinion. Anyway, I am looking forward to both "Heroes" and "Journeyman" tonight. Warning!! Don't highlight and read the following if you don't want to know anything about "Journeyman."
Kolo thinks that Livia was time-travelling to bring Dan and Katie together in the first place.
What do you think?

Very Doubtful. She was always there. He never missed her for long periods of time. I loved episode 2. This show is just getting better and better. I cant wait til next week though. His first huge decision. Does he save the friend? Stranger? or the whole city?
By the way StaLean. Did you notice the little hints of whats yet to come in the first episode? Remember how 'Quantum Leaps' big event was when Sam leaped into Lee Harvey Oswald and we found out that Joackie O died the first time. Well I think we are going to see a big even in 'The Journeyman' Don't know if it will be this season or next. On all of the Front Pages of the newspapers, in the past, were photo's of The World Trade Center. I wonder how they are going to deal with that. |

Yeah - and it had some really funky music for its day. Of course, that spiral did cause some epileptics to have siezures, but what the hell!
(No, really - I liked "Time Tunnel". James Darren was CUTE! Go, Moondoggie!) |

I, personally, didn't think his theory was accurate. We loved episode 2 even better than the 1st one. Next week looks awesome!

No, I need to watch episode 1 again, but NBC doesn't participate in cable "On Demand" like CBS. I wonder if one can replay episodes on the Internet? I bet I can, because "Heroes" has that option. |

I sure hope this show lasts a few more seasons. I can't wait for it to come out on DVD.
I feel for his wife. I can't imagine being married to someone who just disappears every now and then....no ....wait....I wish I did. lol.
So whats up with the Professor who calls him in the past? How did he get his number?
This week The show isnt about the storyline. But it centers on the family. hHe travels when he is with his son. How can you do whatever you need to do in the past when you left your child all alone in a busy place? |

"The Time Traveler's Wife" is a great book and has been adapted into a film starring Eric Bana, due out 2008.
Journeyman is premiering here in the UK on Sky One soon. I've seen the ads for it and was amused to see it stars Scottish actor Kevin McKidd, who you may remember from Dog Soldiers and for fans of Father Ted, he was the injured priest lost in the lingerie section in the Christmas episode. Genius!
What is it with Brits fronting US TV shows: Deadwood, House, The Riches, etc?

I have the book and its on my "next up to read" pile. Being dyslexic, if I start soon, I should have finished it before the Israeli release of the film. Thanks for the heads-up.

There are more. Ian Hart in "Dirt", for instance, is the best part of the show. Also Simon Baker was the star of "The Guardian" - yes, I know he's Australian but still... . And while I didn't watch "Still Standing" much, I didn't really know Mark Addy before that show, and was surprised to find out he's a Yorkshire lad and was using his original accent in "Bonkers".
My theory? British actors know how to be subtle and internalize when they act - even when they're doing slapstick comedy. American actors try to show everyone that they are great actors, especially if they're not, and they end up looking fake and unbelievable. In an interview someone asked Anthony Hopkins about his craft and how he can act so well, he said all he does is learn his lines and says them, that he hasn't really a clue how to act, he just does what he's told. Maybe if Americans would do as they're told more and just learn their lines and say them, they'd be better actors.

Nothing personal, CL, but I'm sure glad you weren't my acting teacher during my years of learning sense memory, fencing, acrobatics, breath control, emotional memory, group dynamics, vocal harmony, stagecraft, microphone and camera technique, verse speaking, classical interpretation, etc ... oh, yes, and acquiring the confidence to recognize that acting is a creative process, that good actors have a great contribution to make to what is essentially a group art form, and that people who merely do what they're told not only give acting a bad name but encourage bad directors to dismiss any process which actors should be going through to create the illusion of reality, to make the familiar seem unfamiliar and the unfamiliar seem familiar.
PS Hopkins is notorious for his dry Brit wit -- he's well known for feeling uncomfortable about answering silly journo questions and knows the process of acting isn't something to be squeezed into a sound bite that's likely to be misinterpreted anyway.
Sorry, but you really touched a nerve, there.
