How horrible for the Mexican people who are now, in the wake of the floods, worried the main dam near Tabasco will burst. I send hugs across the ocean to any fwfr who may have friends or relatives in Mexico.

Apologies in advance for seeming insensitive, but surely BB must have known how her topic heading would be read by someone such as myself who has been out of touch with the news recently.

I certainly would hate for a dam full of Tabasco to burst. I even had to google it to make SURE BB was serious.

Thanks, d8h. Apparently the situation is worsening by the moment. There's now an area of Tabasco state under water which is equivalent to the land area of Belgium - some 40,000 sq km, which is mostly agricultural land. The flood waters are now totally contaminated with raw sewage and water-borne disease has already begun to spread. Over a million people are affected with estimates due to rise.

This will give you an idea of what's going on from the people themselves.

The news is really terrible and I hope they can get back home soon. Although, from what it looks like now, their lost crops (including the chili crop) are probably going to cause a huge economic depression for the area.
