Well, then maybe I just don't know what I'm talking about. I hadn't even heard of the Sex Pistols until I was in college. I imagined that most Americans would have had a similar inexperience with British punk, but perhaps I'm wrong.
By the mid-80's punk was all over (in that incarnation anyway, although metalheads would say it was only just beginning), so I wouldn't expect you'd have any experience with punk to remember. To have got the most out of punk you'd want to be about 14 in 1978, i.e., have been born in 1964 or thereabouts. My guess is you were born about 20 years late.

Yup, and close enough: I was born in 1963, and I was 15 in 1978. It was one of those times when teens felt that the music forming at that time carried the message of a new social order.

Oh how naieve naive I was.

I remember at that age
all the rage
and I swore, evermore,
I'd never sell out.

I went to school,
tried to hide,
but I cried
cuz I lied:

you see i woke up
one day and discovered
that I am "the Man!"

(Lyrics from some song I heard from an aging punk band.)

I wasn't spelling it: I was "saying" it.

This weekend I'm finally off for the long awaited New Zealand tour, which includes a look at pengsean in his natural environment. So if the av contest is to continue in my absence, we'll need a volunteer avatyrant for the next three weeks.

Tallying votes and posting results is the only real work involved. The gallery may suffer but it's not critical. I would need copies of the winning avs for history's sake.

Anybody feeling up for a little volunteer work before the holidays?

I'm happy to do the vote counting and posting, though I don't think I'm up to running the gallery.

However, I have an idea: how about creating new threads in the gallery entitled e.g. Contest for Week Ending 21 November, and then changing their names to something more fitting upon your return?

Nicely done, Sen! Guess we should rename the Mohawk the Mopenguin. I can almost picture that punkguin flippering the bird to the audience then doing a little crowd surfing.

What arousing topic are you gun-a fire off to top the Sex Pistols?
