That's very funny. I had not seen it.
But, I don't question that Matt is funny. Or a good guy. I once again refer to the beginning of the thread -- Is Matt Damon the new DeNiro?

And still I answer, "Nope, he's not."

EM :)

WOW! That's incredible stuff, I'd never seen the Sarah Silverman take on this subject. I will swear to the day I croak that this guy refuses to take himself seriously in the wake of his fame, but here's the thing...

Matt Damon, as I described him in the initial post, is not DeNiro... Not yet! But... he will be. He will be the guy we all remember years from now, the jack Nicholson of his day, who stepped out from beyond his fame to make touching little videos, like the one I just viewed, in order to separate himself from the common actor(Paul Giamatti comes to mind). He will be remembered as one of the best, I have no doubt, tho... all points of view on this subject are swirling around my head...

I'll take that bet. I absolutely believe that he WILL NOT be thought of as the next DeNiro.

Or Jack Nicholson. I didn't realize that being a DeNiro or a Nicholson meant stepping out from your fame and doing funny videos. None come to mind from either of those two actors. When I think of them, I think of great acting. Period. I think of people who command the screen. With DeNiro, I think of an actor who will change for his role. Like he did in Raging Bull.

Doing funny videos is more of a George Clooney trick. Is Matt the next George? No. Not that either. But, they both will do funny videos.

I don't put Matt Damon in the league of DeNiro or Nicholson and I don't see me ever doing that. His forehead alone makes him stand out too much on the screen for him to completely meld into his roles for me. He looks like Matt Damon. I can't explain it, but it gets in the way of me really believing him in the roles he plays. He is competent, yes. And as I can see from the video and other things he has done, he doesn't take his fame too seriously and likes to have fun. But, he is not the caliber of actor those other two are. And, I don't see him getting there.

EM :)

I was going with the humour thread but to stick to the original topic Matt damon seems to have a bit of a range, so far

Frivilous (Dogma)
Serious (Bourne, Good Will Hunting)
Earnest (Good will Hunting)

Have caught my attention, i don't thionk you can compair any of these roles to the powerhouse performances of Mean Streets, Taxi Driver and the Godfather.

Yet all the Damon movies are solidly good. He has yet to play a 'proper' bad guy.

I'll just have too wait

Well, the bet's on then, but here's the thrust...

You're absolutely correct when you say Matt Damon 'looks like Matt Damon...' I can't separate that look from his roles either, but I also recognize DeNiro every time I see him... and Jack rarely surprises me...

I don't necessarily see the 'range' with Robbie myself... so he gains a few pounds for 'Raging Bull' or 'The Untouchables,' he's always gonna be the sullen guy, who captures the screen from those he appears with('cuz he's just that good).

Making 'funny little videos' isn't necessarily the way DeNiro or Jack set themselves apart(DeNiro's humiliated himself on the 'Tonite Show, SNL' etc, while Jack makes a fool outta himself at Laker games.) Those examples may be reaching, within the spirit of the post, but the point is... they have separated themselves from the pack, the way that Matt will do in the many years to come.

Insofar as body shaping: Hell, Matt changed for his roles in the 'Bourne' trilogy in a way that DeNiro could only dream of.
Well, now I'm comparing/contrasting the subject with my examples, but it was just to illustrate a point.

When it's all said and done, Matt Damon will be widely considered one of the most versatile, quintessential actors of OUR time, and I'm willing to bet... Hmmm... Hmmm... What am I willing to bet?!

15-20 years from now, I'll send you the 'Complete Works of the Quintessential Matt Damon' library for your perusing(even if I have to compile the set myself!), at no cost/commitment to yourself, just send the unwatched portion back to me, no questions asked...

Then, and only then, will this blood-feud be solved... 'Cuz I'm right, but more importantly, I gladlyadmit when I'm wrong!

Yet, I'm often wrong, so you may be right also...

C-fet :)

B-mimo... I urge you... Always find the humor in it... that's why most arguments exist(especially mine), yet... your analogies were perfectly 'dead on!' My only exception? DeNiro wasn't really very good in 'Mean Streets'

There, I said it, condemn me... There was a role that Robbie didn't rule...

Thanks for the input, this has been a spirited and entertaining subject... unlike the 'worst thread, EVER..' Which I posted back in July.
